Academics
Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 8 St. John the Evangelist School is part of the network of schools of the Archdiocese of Hartford. The schools of the Archdiocese of Hartford are committed to providing a rigorous academic curriculum, infused with Catholic social teachings, rooted in basic skills and coupled with innovative 21st century programs that will prepare students for high school, college, career, and life. All curriculum standards reflect a continuum of learning from pre-kindergarten through to graduation. All curriculum documents are in alignment with national standards, EXCEED THE COMMON CORE State Standards, and correspond to the high expectations set by the Archdiocese of Hartford Office of Catholic Schools. We place an emphasis on providing a global perspective, moral education, community, and service. We recognize the importance of teaching the whole child, of preserving traditions that make us strong; and we offer a safe, nurturing environment for students to realize and reach their full potential. Innovative Teaching in a traditional setting
Eagle Athletics The athletic program at Saint John School is one of the school’s many strengths and a great source of school spirit and pride. Our mascot is the Eagle, the symbol of our namesake Saint John the Evangelist and a metaphor for the heights to which a person can rise with commitment and focus. Saint John School recognizes the importance along offering strong academics with a strong athletic education. Our volunteer coaches support the school-wide goal of teaching children to become physically strong and mentally selfconfident. We incorporate the themes of good sportsmanship, competitiveness, and respect in the classroom and on the playing fields. The Saint John School athletic program strengthens the overall quality of a Saint John education. Fall Season Cross Country (running) – Boys and Girls Students in Grades 2-8 compete in a series of interscholastic cross-country races. Winter Season Varsity Basketball – Boys Grades 7 & 8 Junior Varsity Basketball – Boys Grades 5 & 6 Varsity Basketball – Girls Grades 7 & 8 Junior Varsity Basketball – Girls Grades 5 & 6 Spring Season Varsity Baseball – Boys Grades 5-8 Varsity Softball – Girls Grades 5-8
