Being a student at West Thames College isn’t just about achieving the best grades, it’s also about meeting new people, getting involved with the Student Voice Teams, events, activities and allowing you to expand your experiences and enhance your personal development to help you prepare for the world of further study and work. Student Enrichment Enrichment Activities are non-curriculum based projects which are run in order to enhance the experiences students have at college. We want to offer students more than just a qualifications, happy students, are productive students. West Thames College wants you all to create memories, gain life experiences, achieve successfully and have fun.

Safeguarding West Thames College considers the Safeguarding of our students to be of the utmost importance. We work with many external agencies to ensure that we respond appropriately and effectively to any concerns raised by students and staff.
Gym & Sport Activities A wide variety of activities including football, basketball, table tennis, boxing, futsal, Zumba and swimming, giving you the opportunity to learn new skills, get involved in individual and team sports, whilst having fun. If you are interested in competitive sports, the college competes in London-wide football and basketball leagues. All sports activities planned are subject to change as per Covid – 19 guidelines.

Finance & Welfare There are various ways that you may be entitled to financial help during your studies at West Thames College:
Bursary for students in further education aged 16-18, aged 19 on a continuing course, or aged 19 with an EHCP
Free College Meals (FCM)
DLS for students in further education aged 19+ on a funded course at entry level, Level 1, 2 or 3
Loan Bursary for students in receipt of the Advanced Learner Loan

There are also other sources of financial help which are detailed in this booklet. Please speak to the Welfare and Support Adviser for further information.
Counselling The Counselling Service offers one-to-one sessions and dropins to any student who needs confidential, professional support with personal issues. The service operates during term time, Monday to Friday, from 9:00am to 4:30pm. All counsellors are members of the BACP and abide by their Code of Ethics and Practice. Appointments can be made by dropping by A003, Moodle, Lunch time drop-in, or by approaching your SLA/Tutor who can refer you for an appointment.
STUDENT VOICE
West Thames College is committed to ensuring that students have the opportunity to engage in and influence their “Student Experience” at all levels throughout the college. It is essential that “Student Voice” can be represented from course level to Board of Governors.
