YOUR GUIDE TO

GET READY FOR ALOT OF WALKING First of all, the park is huge and can be overwhelming with all there is to do. It’s the 8th largest national park in the US and spans 3,472 square miles with a low elevation of 5,282 feet and high elevation of 11,358 feet. There are over 900 miles of trails and 80% of the park is covered in forest. Most of the park is located in the northeast corner of Wyoming and spills over to Idaho and Montana. There are 5 entrances to the park and once you’re in the roads form a large figure 8. To help you navigate through the park, we will highlight each major area of the park, and what we thought was worthwhile If you want a more detailed map, here’s one from NPS. We’ll be writing more detailed guides on each area of the park

WE ARE HERE TO HELP We always start our visit to the park at one of the Visitor Centers. You can learn more about the current conditions of the park as well as get insight from rangers on how to spend your time there. They are typically open late May to early October unless otherwise noted below. Hours vary based on location and season . •Albright (Mittttttammoth) Visitor Center •Canyon Visitor Education Center •Fishing Bridge Visitor Center & Trailside Museum •Grant Visitor Center •Madison Information Station and Trailside Museum •Museum of the National Park Ranger •Norris Geyser Basin Museum and Information •Old Faithful Visitor Education Center •West Thumb Information Station •West Yellowstone Visitor Information Center

GET READY TO BE

MESMERISED! OLD FAITHFUL

Named Old Faithful due to the fact that its eruption is highly predictable (it erupts every 45 – 125 minutes), the geyser is easily accessible from the west entrance to Yellowstone National Park.

SEE OLD FAITHFUL ERUPT

This area is easily the most crowded area of the park with the two most popular attractions: Old Faithful and the Grand Prismatic Spring. There are 3 main geyser basins: Upper, Midway, and Lower

EXPLORE THE GRAND PRISMATIC SPRING The Grand Prismatic Spring is totally mesmerising and easily one of the best things to do in Yellowstone National Park. In fact, I’d go as far as saying it’s one spot you have to make an effort for if you’re in Wyoming, generally What might at first look like some sort of artistic, man-made creation is actually the Grand Prismatic Spring, which gets its bright colours from pigmented thermophilic bacteria found in its hot waters. This famous hot spring is nearly 300 feet (91 m) around, and 160 feet (49 m) deep.

WALK ACROSS A GIANT GEYSER BASIN

The West Thumb area is home to the largest geyser basin on the shore of Yellowstone Lake. There are tons of hydrothermal features and even some underwater geysers. You can explore via the boardwalks or do a guided kayaking trip. This was my personal favorite area of the park. It was moderately trafficked in comparison to other areas of the park and had beautiful blue hot springs

BRING ON THE

HEAT!

STEP UP TO MAMMOTH HOT TERRACES

Though you can start by exploring the area from where you enter, for this guide, we’ll be starting from the northeast corner of the park and going clockwise. Mammoth Hot Springs is one of the most popular areas of the park where you see the iconic terraces.

SEE YELLOWSTONE’S GRAND CANYON

Believe it or not, Yellowstone does have its own Grand Canyon, and it’s one of the most popular places for hiking in the park. Now, this is totally understandable, when you consider how naturally beautiful the area is as the views are just stunning.

Mammoth Hot Springs Terraces – walk along the boardwalks and stairs that take you through the hydrothermal terraces that are constantly changing. The springs are colorful when active and white when dry. What you see: Opal Terrace, Liberty Cap, Hymen Terrace, Devil’s Thumb, Minerva Terrace, Palette Spring, Cleopatra Terrace, New Blue Spring, Main Terrace, Canary Spring, Cupid Spring, Grassy Spring, Dryad Spring, Mound Terrace, Jupiter Terrace, and Reservoir Springs.

UNWIND IN A HOT SPRING

Relax and unwind in Montana’s newest hot springs experience – Yellowstone Hot Springs. We are located just eight miles north of the North entrance to Yellowstone Park, at the south end of beautiful Paradise Valley. Yellowstone Hot Springs is a soaking experience unique in the world. Settled between two mountain ranges, and nestled on the bank of the Yellowstone River, peace and serenity are the keynotes of this location. Mineral-rich pool waters with continual flow-through circulation create a soaking experience that melts away the stress and cares of the day. Relaxing in the pools while viewing the surrounding mountains with eagles soaring against the big sky of Montana is an experience that can only be appreciated by visiting Yellowstone Hot Springs. We invite you to experience our soothing waters and friendly staff.

YELLOWSTONE

EXPLORE THE DISCOVERY CENTER For those adventure seekers that have maybe realised they are not as adventurous as they once thought, the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Centre in West Yellowstone offers a great, safe alternative to finding actual wild wolves and bears in the park. While all of the historical and conservational information is found in the actual building, all of the action is outside, where the bears and wolves live. Not to worry, they are in enclosed areas, making the Centre the safest way to get so close to these beautiful wild animals.
