The Collect O saving God, who led your people through the wilderness and brought them to the promised land: so guide us that, following our Saviour, we may walk through the wilderness of this world and be brought to the glory of the world which is to come; through your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. A reading from Deuteronomy 26:1-11 1

When you have come into the land that the Lord your God is giving you as an inheritance to possess, and you possess it, and settle in it, 2you shall take some of the first of all the fruit of the ground, which you harvest from the land that the Lord your God is giving you, and you shall put it in a basket and go to the place that the Lord your God will choose as a dwelling for his name. 3You shall go to the priest who is in office at that time, and say to him, ‘Today I declare to the Lord your God that I have come into the land that the Lord swore to our ancestors to give us.’ 4When the priest takes the basket from your hand and sets it down before the altar of the Lord your God, 5you shall make this response before the Lord your God: ‘A wandering Aramean was my ancestor; he went down into Egypt and lived there as an alien, few in number, and there he became a great nation, mighty and populous. 6When the Egyptians treated us harshly and afflicted us, by imposing hard labour on us, 7we cried to the Lord, the God of our ancestors; the Lord heard our voice and saw our affliction, our toil, and our oppression. 8The Lord brought us out of Egypt with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm, with a terrifying display of power, and with signs and wonders; 9and he brought us into this place and gave us this land, a land flowing with milk and honey. 10So now I bring the first of the fruit of the ground that you, O Lord, have given me.’ You shall set it down before the Lord your God and bow down before the Lord your God. 11Then you, together with the Levites and the aliens who reside among you, shall celebrate with all the bounty that the Lord your God has given to you and to your house. Moses writes concerning the righteousness that comes from the law, that ‘the person who does these things will live by them.’ 6But the righteousness that comes from faith says, ‘Do not say in your heart, “Who will ascend into heaven?” ’ (that is, to bring Christ down) 7‘or “Who will descend into the abyss?” ’ (that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). 8But what does it say? ‘The word is near you, on your lips and in your heart’ (that is, the word of faith that we proclaim); 9 because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10For one believes with the heart and so is justified, and one confesses with the mouth and so is saved. 11The scripture says, ‘No one who believes in him will be put to shame.’ 12For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all and is generous to all who call on him. 13For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’ Hear the Word of the Lord THANKS BE TO GOD 5

Members are advised that LENTEN BIBLE STUDY classes begin on Monday 7 March and will be held weekly at St Clements Office Conference room commencing at 9.30am for a quick “cuppa” and studies will be held at 10.00am to 11.00am. (Please advise President Judy or Secretary Rose if you will be attending). We also extend an invitation to anyone who finds this time suitable to join us for these studies. Lenten Study booklets are $12 – “Conversations with our Awesome God”. Members are reminded that the March Meeting is a “Quiet” Morning held on Thursday 10 March following the 10.00am Eucharist. LITURGICAL ROSTERS

Our March outing is very different in more ways than one. Firstly, it is scheduled for a Tuesday because the Queens Wharf Information Centre is not accessible of a weekend. Secondly, this is anything but a ‘bushwalk’ but the outing does make a strong link between our heritage and the new era Brisbane. I think the outing has lots to offer especially for those of us who can recall a city skyline when City Hall was prominent. Thirdly, in our planning we were able to tie in a visit to City Hall for a noon day concert featuring the music of The Beatles. (Nerida has acquired 10 tickets, free, but only has 4 left so contact her on 0411 052 292 for the one hour free concert or alternatively you can try to reserve your own). If The Beatles is not your thing, then you can still join us for morning tea at the City hall ‘Shingle Inn’ located just outside the concert hall, between 10.45am & 11.30am. Getting There: There are a few options on offer to get yourself to the Queens Wharf Information Centre at the Gardens end of George Street. 1] Take a city cat to either the QUT ferry stop or the one at North Quay and you are a 10 minute walk away. 2] Catch a train to Central or a bus to King George Square and then walk down George Street or alternatively catch the City Loop bus Route 40 outside City Hall in Adelaide Street and it will deliver you virtually to the Information Centre. 3] Drive yourself and others? into the city centre and share the cost of a car park. Whatever your choice, you are asked to GATHER at The Queens Wharf Project Centre at street level by 9.15am for a free guided tour by Abbey who is also offering a free cuppa at the centre to sustain us. At around 10.30am we will depart for City Hall and our Shingle Inn morning tea or you can choose to walk our lovely City Gardens and perhaps do a riverside walk at your own pace. How often do you make the time to do this? What to Bring: Not too much really but suggest your Go Card, credit card or cash, a water bottle, comfortable shoes and optional BYO lunch or dine out!
