2022-2024 BOARD OF DIRECTORS UPDATE

very two years, Adath Israel provides the congregation with an opportunity to introduce new voices and perspectives to the Board of Directors. We are fortunate to have many talented and capable members who have considered sharing their time and energies to ensure our synagogue remains relevant and vibrant. Please take some time to review the biographies of these outstanding volunteers who have been slated to be part of the Board of Directors for 2022-2024. If you wish to run from the floor for the Board of Directors, you may put your name forward and follow this process to become a nominee: 1. Provide a written submission. 2. Include the signatures of ten (10) members in good standing as proposers 3. Send to the Secretary – Bonnie Posel – at [email protected] at least four (4) weeks in advance of the May 26th AGM. The Annual General Meeting will be held on Thursday, May 26, 2022 from 7:00 to 8:00 pm during which the election (if necessary) will take place for the Board of Directors. Exercise your right of membership by casting a ballot at the AGM or by submitting a proxy form which can be obtained from the Adath Israel office or website. Michael Lipton Election Chair, 2022

2022-2024 EXECUTIVE TEAM SHAUL DWOSH - PRESIDENT, Nominated by the Slate Committee

My wife Cheri and I live in the Ledbury neighbourhood. We have 2 children: Jacob (20) who is currently at Queen’s University and Abby (18) who is completing a gap year. I have served on the Adath Israel Board for the past eight years and on the Executive for the past six. My siblings and I grew up at Adath Israel, and we have all had active roles in the Youth Department, Junior Congregation and USY. As a teen l served as Adath Israel USY Chapter President. Prior to Dentistry, I was a canoe tripper at Camp Ramah. I now have an Endodontic practice in Thornhill. I am an avid angler and enjoy ice fishing in the winter. More recently, I have taken up welding and the banjo.

PAUL FAIBISH - TREASURER, Nominated by the Slate Committee

My wife Isabel and I were married at Adath 40 years ago. Our 3 children went through the Hebrew Day School system and graduated from CHAT. We are pleased that our grandchildren are now fifth generation members of Adath Israel carrying on a tradition of active participation in synagogue life. I have been on the Board for 8 years and have chaired multiple committees, working very closely with the other lay leaders, clergy and office staff. In addition to my synagogue service, I am the president and owner of Plastic Plus Ltd, an optical lens manufacturing company. My grandparents were founding members of the synagogue and I am humbled to continue to work towards ensuring the future of Adath Israel for many years.

ROBBIE FELDMAN - CHAIR, Nominated by the Slate Committee

My wife Helene and I joined Adath Israel in 2016. We have been married for 49 years and have three children and 7 grandchildren, one of whom is an Adath member along with her 3 kids. We have been able to proudly celebrate Bnei Mitzvah for our two oldest grandchildren at the shul. My family had been longtime members of Shaar Shalom Synagogue, where I served on the Board and as Treasurer. I now sit on the Adath Board and am the First Vice President, serving on multiple shul committees. I am a regular attendee at the morning minyan and Shabbat service. I am a CPA, CA.

BARRY GREEN - SECRETARY, Nominated by the Slate Committee

My wife Gayle, myself and our 2 daughters joined Adath Israel when we moved into the neighbourhood more than 25 years ago. I have served on the Board for the last 6 years and have also chaired the Religious and Catering committees during that time. I am a regular Shul goer and have a deep commitment to the continued success of Adath Israel.

ELLEN MELMAN - VICE PRESIDENT, Nominated by the Slate Committee

Our extended family have been members of Adath Israel for over 60 years. My husband Neil and I have two children & 4 grandchildren - Rabbi Aaron Melman & Elisa Rotman (Jordan & Hannah Melman) and Ora & Ryan Leopold (Dylan & Amelia Leopold). I attend Shabbat and Morning Minyan services regularly. Our family is involved in all aspects of synagogue life. I have chaired & co-chaired various committees over the years including: Koach Campaign, Membership, Security/Decorum & Catering. I am a member of Women of Adath and have a strong commitment to Adath Israel, the Jewish Community and Israel. I am fortunate to be a past recipient of Federation's Volunteer of the Year Award for Adath Israel.

DAVID URBACH- IMMEDIATE PAST PRESIDENT

I grew up in Toronto, and attended Associated Hebrew School and CHAT. I have been an Adath Israel member since 2004, with my wife Stacey and children Natalie, Jeremy, Allison and Evan. The Urbach children attend RHA, Associated and CHAT. I am the Past President of Adath Israel, for the 2020-2022 Board. I am a doctor at Women’s College Hospital.

2022-2024 BOARD OF DIRECTORS STEPHEN FLOMEN - Nominated by the Slate Committee

I was born and raised in St. John’s, NFLD. and went to Camp Kadimah. When our family moved to Toronto my parents joined Adath Israel in 1981 and I have been a member for over 40 years. I have two adult daughters, Natalie & Jaclyn, who also are members of the synagogue. Natalie had her Bat Mitzvah at Adath Israel. I worked with my family in a successful retail company, and learned many facets of operating a business. I moved to the insurance industry, where I am currently an independent life and group broker, (Flomen Insurance Group). My late mother instilled in me that getting involved with your community was a way to do more than “just give a donation”. Over the years, I have volunteered for UJA, Ve’ahavta, Canadian Hadassah-WIZO, Meals on Wheels and have participated in the Ride to Conquer Cancer. I currently serve as the VP of Lodge Ilan Ramon of the Hebrew Order of David. I welcome the opportunity to become a more active member of the Adath Israel congregation.

STEPHEN GLAZER - Nominated by the Slate Committee

I was born, raised, and educated in Toronto and I have three beautiful children; Melissa, Benjamin and Stephanie. I am a graduate of Associated Hebrew Day Schools and CHAT. I feel fortunate to be a specialist in Internal Medicine, Sleep Medicine and Bariatric Medicine. I am a member of the High Holiday Committee which has inspired me to become further involved in synagogue life. I was pleased to serve as Medical Director for the shul's COVID vaccine Clinics. I am passionate about Judaism and its values and feel that it needs to be maintained and strengthened in our hearts . I hope to contribute to its vitality through ongoing participation in our synagogue giving back to our Jewish community.

DAVID GOLDSTEIN - Nominated by the Slate Committee

I have attended Adath Israel since I was a young child including celebrating both my Bar Mitzvah and wedding. My wife and I were married at Adath Israel five years ago and enjoy participating in Adath Israel’s friendly family events with our two young children. I am currently the CFO of DiamondCorp, one of the largest residential real estate developers in Toronto. Prior to that, I spent 13 years in investment banking primarily focused on the real estate sector at BMO Capital Markets advising clients on capital markets transactions. I look forward to serving on the Board and sharing my skills and ideas to help build a strong and vibrant community at Adath Israel.

DAVID GRANT - Nominated by the Slate Committee

I was born and educated in Glasgow, Scotland. After graduating as a dentist, Iris and I were married and then moved to London UK, and finally emigrated to Canada. I served as Chief of the Department of Dentistry at a local hospital and have been in general dental practice ever since. Iris and I have three grown children, two of whom were married at Adath Israel and along with their children, have remained members of the shul. I have served on various shul committees such as High Holiday, Security, and Decorum. Having been a High Holiday usher for over thirty years and a regular Shul attendee, it is my intention to help our Synagogue navigate a successful path through the next, possibly challenging few years.

RON HOFFMAN - Nominated by the Slate Committee

Heather and I have been long term members of Adath Israel, We have 2 children, Russell and Lori, and 5 grandchildren. I served as Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President of Brotherhood and participated on numerous Adath committees including chairing High Holiday and Young Members and Relational Judaism. Community is very important in my life. I was President of Canadian Foundation for Masorti Judaism and executive member of Mercaz-Canada. I graduated from Osgoode and have both legal and business experience. I enjoy tennis, working out, Tai Chi, meditation, bird watching and travel. I look forward to bringing my enthusiasm and skills to Adath Israel to help enrich our community.

MARK LIEBERMAN - Nominated by the Slate Committee

I grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. Not only was I always an active member of Jewish life there, but I also spent my summers at Camp Ramah. My wife Naomi and I have been members of Adath Israel since 2010 and we are proud parents of three teenagers: Julie, Samara and Blake. I am a partner at the law firm of Kronis, Rotsztain, Margles, Cappel LLP. I hope my experience as a lawyer and an active participant in running a business will help support the vitality and continuity of our synagogue.

JANET-LEE NADAS - Nominated by the Slate Committee

My husband George and I have been members of Adath Israel since 1979. Our two children, David and Sarah attended the Adath Israel Hebrew School and had their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs in our synagogue. I participated in the following committees: Chesed, Ritual, Retention and Membership and Education. I helped the Brotherhood’s Yellow Candle Program, their Shabbat service for Veterans, and volunteered at the Chanukah and Purim parties. In the community, I sat as a Board member of the non-profit organization "Volunteer Readers" for 7 years. George and I enjoy attending Shabbat services and morning minyan. Since retiring from teaching with the Toronto District School Board, I now have more time to devote to our shul and community. I am committed to keeping our shul vibrant and relevant to its deserving members.

BONNIE POSEL - Nominated by the Slate Committee

Along with my husband, Cliff, I have been a member of Adath Israel since 2000, not long after marrying and relocating from Montreal. Our two children, Amy and Josh, have grown up in the shul, and celebrated religious life cycle events at Adath from their baby naming/bris to their bnei mitzvahs. I have served as Secretary on the Executive, Chair of the Budget and Finance Committee, and a member of the Strategic Planning and Budget and Finance Committees, along with serving on other Boards and volunteering at numerous charities. I am a CPA, CA currently working in the federal government. I would like to continue to be an active participant on the Board of Governors.

STUART SHAPIRO - Nominated by the Slate Committee

I was born and raised in Toronto, My wife, Monique, and I have three children: Jaime, Ryan and Taylor. Adath Israel has played an important role in our lives. Additionally, Monique’s family are also members of our congregation. As a child, I worked in the Junior congregation and ran youth programs. As adults, we were married at the shul and have celebrated our children’s simchas here. I work in marketing and business strategy and will bring that perspective with me. My father and brother were active members of the board and now I am excited for my time to carry on the Shapiro tradition to give back to our shul and community.

LYNSEY WYNBERG- Nominated by the Slate Committee

From Purim carnivals, Havdalah nights and family services when my children were little, then challah bakes, volunteer opportunities, and more recently, bar and bat mitzvahs, Adath Israel has been a foundational part of my family's Jewish life. Coming out of the pandemic, I want more than to be part of a strong community – I want to be an active contributor and look forward to doing that as a member of the Adath board. On a personal note, my husband Roni and I have been married for 18 years and have two children who attend CHAT and Young Judea camps. I am a financial communications professional working in public relations at a bank.

dath Israel is a community of immensely talented members, and our Congregation would benefit significantly from your ideas. We respect that committing to a Board position may not be realistic or possible due to time and professional obligations. BUT, there are many opportunities to share your talent by serving on one of our many Shul committees. Your participation and past experience can help us grow and thrive. Engaging on our committees helps to ensure all voices and ideas are included. Your voice should matter.
