HINK I can safely say that I’m not the only one who gladly wants to see 2020 away and hope for a refreshing start in 2021.

The trends in the pipeline for 2021 is a new word – Wellness Interior Design. Wellness is an active process of becoming aware and making choices toward a healthy lifestyle that nourish our body and mind. Some of the elements that contributed to wellness interior are biophilic design (connect with nature), lighting (affects our mood physiological and psychological state), comfort (ergonomical and ease of anatomy), colours (impact on mood and calm the mind), organised (clutter-free home reflects a clutter-free mind) and you (the home must conform to your needs, taste, memories and lifestyle). With these thoughts, we commemorate Designer Concept with a new look, with additions of new sections to cater to those who are house proud and have the desire to enhance their abode. There are two additional sections - Trends Alert and TalkShop – that you

might find interesting. Trends Alert is a pictorial section that focuses on certain themes and trends and it could range from colours to materials. In the upcoming issue, we would be focusing on the colours red and gold in conjunction with the festive season. Whereas Talkshop is a trivia where we want to get to know industry players as a person outside work. It is fun, light-hearted, and slightly personal so we are able to present a lifestyle perspective of the designer.

COSENTINO DESIGN CHALLENGE 15 The Spanish global leader in production and distribution of innovative surfaces, Cosentino, is holding the 15th edition of the international Cosentino Design Challenge (CDC). This competition connects students from across the global with quality materials and products that they will eventually use in their future. Cosentino is seeking for inspiring projects that encompass the theme well into their designs. For the category Architecture, the theme is “KITCHENS WITH SOUL - NEW VISIONS FOR EVER SPACES”. Meanwhile, in the category Design, students are to reflect on “COSENTINO… MATERIAL AND SENSATIONS”. Participants have a free-hand at how they develop their projects, however, they would need to include some of the innovative surfaces that Cosentino offers the world of architecture and design: Silestone®, Dekton® and/or Sensa by Cosentino®. Some clients don’t have the proper knowledge about blinds and fabrics and this is where we step in and assist them with suggestions that would help them make an informed decision,” he said. Working with trends, colours as well as interior designers, the blinds industry is always changing and innovating and that makes it interesting to Patrick and the team at Tachitica. Citing an example, Patrick said back then their popular fabric was only available in 3 colours which were popular but today that range has close to 10 colours and it grows from there.

Presently, Tachitica has a myriad of products compared to back then when they only had two products - aluminum Venetian blinds and vertical blinds and were just traders as the industry was still in its infancy and demand was less. But once its popularity grew, Tachitica started manufacturing blinds in-house and joined in the roller blinds race because it was growing segment. They invested in cutting machines that made them more efficient compared to other players.

task of designing an interior of a home can be a daunting task as not only must the interior design firm

fulfill the brief but they would also need to take into consideration the needs and wants of every occupant of the home while meeting the occupants’ expectations. Interior designing can seem like a mammoth mission but not for the Nu Infinity team. Commissioned to design this semi-detached home in Bahau, Negeri Sembilan, their brief was to design a home fit for a growing family. Armed with this foundation, the ID team decided to break the mold of conventional family homes to design a dwelling that is modern, sleek and edgy. From the outside, this home looks like any other industrial-design home but that’s only revealed when one enters it. Fondly called ‘Le Gris’ that stands for The Grey in French, the tone of this home is set from the get-go and is a shining example of present-day family home. The theatrics begin even before we get inside the home as the main entrance has been relocated to the side and a welcoming path leads to the foyer entrance. This home, an amalgamation of greenery, shrubbery, and natural tones, can be closed off for privacy with a slat panel wooden sliding door in honey and black. The side entrance leads to the living area, where one instantly understands why this home is called ‘Le Gris’. Spanning 3,850 sq ft over two floors, the first floor houses the communal area designed in shades of grey and black with white to complement. What strikes the eye is the feature wall behind the TV. Employing marble-like matte tiles in grey for the bottom half, the feature wall’s top half is made up of an onyx panel interlaced with vertical slats. The TV console in off-white breaks the monochrome while matching the light grey tiles. The settee in a dark grey matches the ambiance. The entire room is made brighter by sunlight streaming through large windows. Pop of colours are in the forms of throw pillows and an armchair in mustard. The open space concept enables the dining room to be adjacent to the living area. Things take a darker turn at the dining area where anchor grey and black are prevalent in the space. Short tube lighting is overhead the dining table that is fashioned from a slab of timber (the wood grain pattern which is unique to individual timber) adds distinction to the space. The dry kitchen has been designed to look exceptionally large in scale, creating a backdrop for the entire Ground Floor. The cabinetry, appliances & accessories and hidden door that leads to the wet kitchen are in onyx. The only colour comes from the white sink while mirrored panels add length to the space. The first floor is home to the bedrooms. The colour palette of the ground is replicated into the master bedroom and that gives the home a fluid movement where all the interior is in symphony. The master bedroom is the magnum opus of this abode. Designed to be spacious, both the bedroom and walk-in wardrobe are given delicate finishes and ample of natural sunlight penetration points. The walk-in wardrobe features an elongated dressing table with Hollywood vanity mirror. While in the sleeping area, black slat panels that doubles up as sliding door is juxtaposed with marbled wall to elevate the space. The attached bathroom has been given the same marble-like matte tiles treatment as a result it gives occupants to a cool, comforting embrace. The other bedrooms and study rooms too have been tastefully designed. The materials chosen further illustrates the owner’s appreciation for tasteful designs and carefully detailed profiles.

estled in the quieter, emerging enclave to the north of bustling, upscale Mont Kiara, Anjali North Kiara offers stylish villas and condominium homes designed to inspire serenity and solitude. Lush, green trees line the perimeter of the property, inspiring an impression of exclusivity and privacy.

At Anjali, the blueprint of all units takes on a contemporary tonality that complements simplicity and functionality. These work hand-in-hand to create a home of enduring beauty and that is exactly what Custo Design and its team of interior designers have done to this client’s unit that is moderately sized. Adopting the Scandinavian concept, the exterior is simple and functional where to the left sits a shoe cabinet in dark timber accent while at the far end is the altar – a rather modern looking one at that too. A traced-out halo gives the space adds the divinity aura. Once you walk in the door, the dining area greets occupants and guests and further to that is the living area. Throughout the communal space, the grey hue has been applied to the walls and it work as the perfect backdrop to accessorize the rest of the space with other furnishing that either complements or compares. The dining table in dark veneer and deep orange dining chairs brightens the area. At the living area, the sparsely furnished space echoes functionality while the aesthetics is kept relatively simple. By the wall, a photo frame conceals a hidden shelving that could be used to keep valuables from prying eyes. The TV console in off-white syncs with the coffee table and sofa set. The master bedroom is done in shades of mocha, chocolate, and steel grey. The colour combination alludes to a space that is rich, luxuriant, and roomy while also carrying the personality of its occupant. designing, most home owners prefer having an interior that is white for its pristine quality and versatility but some home owners also shy away from the shade for they worry that their home could exude a clinical ambiance and they are

both not wrong in their assumption. The secret to nailing a white interior is to practice balance similar to how the team at Goldfields Concepts have done to this home.

Taking shades of white as the dominant colour, the interior designers at Goldfields Concepts have designed an abode that is pure, rich, luxuriant and homely simply by complementing the dominant colour with other hues that elevate the interior from plain to breathtaking. Playing with both the curved and straight lines, the feature wall that houses the TV could easily pass off as an art installation. Interspersed within the gold panels are marble tiles imbibed with invisible lighting that radiates magical qualities. The feature wall pairs well with the white furniture and walls. Just beyond the living area, sits the dining area that is as retro as it is chic. he brochure hails The Oval’s architecture as artistic as the two elliptical towers of the oval rise from a carefully designed pocket of landscaped tranquility. Composed around eight slender columns, the edifice of the building presents a study in lightness and strength, in the heart of the Kuala Lumpur City Centre. By day, the Oval is a graceful and airy glass wrapped sculpture. By night, it transforms into shimmering, luminous towers of light, coloured by discrete LED illumination. Within this oasis lies a dwelling designed by interior design team at InD’finity.

A canvas to showcase the artistic nature of the abode and its surroundings, the overall design concept is derived from Southeast Asian style and then integrated into modern elements, bringing out the tropical and natural beauty of the interior. Designed to allow the occupant who is an expatriate to experience the tropic beauty of the Malaysia, this home is an amalgamation of colours, natural materials, and layers of texture. Walking through the entrance, the spacious living area comes to sight and it an area that features good lighting and keeps everything in the centre of the space. The whole living room and dining room use the cool earth color (a little grayish brown). In order to create a Southeast Asian style, the designer used his own design with texture and tactile tropical rainforest trees, dense and diverse tree wallpaper, and gray floral line wall paint to give the overall space a Nanyang nostalgia without making the space feel complicated. The marble pattern TV partition design is simple and generous without blocking the view. Metal carved wall decorations add an artistic sense to the overall space. The leisure rattan dining chair gives people a natural and elegant feeling, and has good environmental performance, but it does not lose the fashionable charm in the whole space. From there, we make way to the central hall, a large area of specific wallpaper, bright colors make people shine. There is a strong contrast with the local area, and nature is full of wild calls. The kitchen and the middle hall are connected to each other, and every partner can show their talents for fruit plate, meal preparation, and wine bartending. Master bedroom is a continuation of the living room design elements, where colors bring in a little relaxation. The large area of ink green is refreshing to the eyes and mind. Open the curtains at sunrise, and the natural light pours in the house. The dense woods and light gray colors highlight the natural scenery without losing the artistic quality. Its two bedrooms is a warm wall color with metallic elements, the whole space alive. Permeated with a strong tropical style, it also adds layers and artistic sense to the overall space. A combination of modernity and retro nostalgia makes the space reach a balance and enhance the texture of the space. In the corner, every time you find a place, there is more surprise and joy. These personalized printed animal and plant wallpapers truly depict the vitality of the forest. The team at InD’finity too has used environmentally friendly paint that can effectively reduce up to 98.5% of bacteria. Gorgeous colors are actually the colors of nature, and returning colors to nature is also a feature of South Asian home furnishings.

Inspired by the tallest tree in the world, the Sequoia Sempervirens, Secoya Residence stands at 41-storeys high and aims to be a livable city amidst the forest through the integration of eco-friendly practices and environmental preservations. Within this lavishly designed residence tower is a unit that blends beautifully with its natural surroundings and the façade of the residential tower.

Blessed with a city view, this unit measuring 1,100 sq ft relies on a natural colour palette as well as art pieces to highlight the home and make it look more spacious and also befitting its exclusive stature. he word fusion denotes the process of combining two or more elements to form one entity and in the world of interior designing, one of the most renowned fusion is the ‘East meets West’ design concept. Popular for its eclecticism, homeowners and interior designers opt for this design concept as it allows them to create a multi-layered result like the one demonstrated by the design team

at IQI Concept where they have married both the Eastern and Western qualities and designed this home located in U-Thant Residence Kuala Lumpur. Although the ‘East’ and ‘West’ concepts have essentially been influencing each other, the coming together of both these influences under one roof makes an interior an amalgamation of cultures. For this home that spans 3,000 sq ft, the IQI Concept interior design team has combined a modern contemporary interior design and Eastern element lifestyle, where the living space also showcases the owner’s furniture collected from their travels around the world. The home begins with the exterior where there is a sitting area for one to put on and remove their footwear. Predominantly in white, the wooden chairs provide a classic contrast while the geometric tiles on the floor bring about a vivacious vibe to the space. Upon entering the house, you’ll be greeted by a grey and white contemporary interior and what stands out are the brightly coloured furnishing and decor items as they help cut through the clinical finish of the interior. Peppered artfully throughout the interior are art pieces that are unique and complement with the ‘East meets West’ design concept. The use of wooden furniture too underlines the eastern elements of the space and balances the overall theme. The IQI Concept team had demolished the pre-existing glossy tile flooring and replaced it with matte tiles that exudes a calm and homey look. Though the home takes on a neutral palette, colourful and playful elements have been carefully placed within the interior to inject warmth and habitability to this dwelling. As such, the powder room adjacent to the living room features a wall of egg-shaped tiles and a floral countertop basin. Each corner has its own distinctive style. Going for a more eastern look, the dining area features a linear pendant light and a set of wooden dining table and chairs. The dry kitchen area has a more modern look, featuring an all-white galley kitchen with island layout. Moving further into the back of the house, a chill-out area that exhibits a laidback charm has been included to allow the family to enjoy bonding over some game or shows. A custom made sofa settee inspired by the Mah Jong sofa by Hans Hopfer has been designed for the occupant and once installed, the modular sofa instantly becomes a signature for the house.

Back home, Sachi Design teamed up with Hunter Douglas to furbish a showhouse in Tropicana Aman, a development artfully designed to allow one to embrace the alluring qualities of nature. Nestled in this tranquil locale is the semi detached show unit that celebrates natural light, minimalism, and modernism within its interior. Using a natural colour palette, the home is simplicity personified. Walking in through the wooden door, it is evident how the interior design team truly wanted to champion simplicity and let natural lighting do the most work. Extending to the dining area, the natural hue that adorns the flooring and the TV wall lends the space a naturalness and authenticity while the darker cocoa notes of the furniture melds seamlessly while exuding contrast. Sitting in the living area is an off-white sofa that matches perfectly with its surroundings. The TV wall in a natural wood tone is complemented with a TV console in that same shade. lifestyles, GenKL weaves seamlessly with the existing landscape. Within this 30-storey tower is a space that has been designed by the interior design firm SQR Interior Architecture Sdn Bhd. Taking the lush greenery and rapid development of the surrounding, this unit has been immaculately designed to reflect its landscape as well as staying true to the client’s brief which is to have an interior that is minimally designed. This home which belongs to a family with two small children have been designed in mostly clean lines, warm tones, and refined details with cozy textiles to heighten the beauty of the space. Entering the abode, to the left is a cupboard in white for storing shoes and knick-knacks. From there, one comes face-to-face with the dining and living areas and the first thing that strikes the mind is how pristine the space looks and feels. Done up in soft shades of grey, the dining space is simple and functional. Grey wingback chairs feature exposed wooden legs while the table top itself is fashioned from marble-like material with black exposed legs which presents a beautiful juxtaposition. A mirror is the only accessory. Just beyond the dining area, a sliding door takes occupants into the kitchenette. Within an arm’s length is the living area which once again takes on soothing palettes such as natural timber, white, and grey. The wall that backdrops the TV is designed in a natural timber while a TV console in white sits in front of it. Just behind the sofa set is another partition in natural timber that seems like a wall but in actuality is a concealed storage space that run the length of the wall and extends along the corridor. The interior receives plenty of sunlight from tall windows. Bare walls through the communal area is painted a pistachio green that marries well with the timber and elements within the space. The bedrooms are sumptuously designed to give its owners the feeling of comfort and opulence. Tastefully designed, the master bedroom exudes a tailor-made elegance with a tailored built-in bedhead replete with lush textures. And if that isn’t enough, what takes it up a notch is the colour palette – the use of royal blue gives the room a strong character. The hallmark of a lounge area is that it has an inviting atmosphere that strives to be as comfortable as possible for all its occupants. If we look around us, a home, office, hotels, as well as airports have lounge areas. Is it possible though to design the entire

interior of a home to reflect a lounge so the occupants and guests would feel relaxed and comfortable without foregoing style? Studio Three, an interior design studio that is making waves with its invigorating design ideas shows us that is possible by designing this home in Nadayu Residence to predominantly reflect the lounge design ideal. Taking some signature concepts such as dimmed lighting, rugs, low sofas, and small lounge tables and applying them throughout the interior keeps the theme going fluidly. The living area of this 3-storey home is kept relatively simple where the pristineness of white settee and marble coffee table is balanced beautifully with the use of wicker and timber furniture. Tall glass windows and doors allow plenty of sunlight to pour in which brightens the space while pops of colours add vibrancy. A walkway takes occupants and guests to the second living area that is distinctive than the former. Taking on a modernistic design concept, this living area once again features plenty of natural lighting, minimal furniture, while keeping to simplicity and practicality. Most of the space is left bare while art pieces adorn some parts of the home. Wicker chairs are paired with an orange sofa while the wall opposite to it features a wooden shelving and dark grey slat wall. Closer to the French sliding doors, sits an off-white chaise lounge. A black circular coffee table sits in the centre of the room. Spacious and brightly lit, the dining and dry kitchen areas exude a hushed elegance. Using natural material to its best, the wicker chairs evoke a sense of nostalgia where rattan chairs used to be a popular choice of furniture. ver the last 5 years, an unexpected colour palette has been making a splash within the home improvement industry. It is a colour that is coveted for its versatility, subtlety, adaptability, universality, and complementing nature. Contrary to the misconception that it

is a dreary and underwhelming colour, grey when cleverly paired is able to transform an interior to look classy as well as elegant as demonstrated in this home designed by Surface R. Taking on the role of a primary shade for this home, grey has been beautifully paired with different colour palettes as well as materials to elevate the interior of this home. Spanning 4,200 sq ft, the living area of this semidetached home in Jade Hills uses marble and timber that brings the interior together. ne of the ways to stay ahead of any game is to adapt to change and innovate to changing times. This statement rings true in our personal and professional lives and when we are at work, the need to constantly learn, unlearn, and relearn allows one to be ahead of the pack. In the world of interior designing, the same rules apply,

where interior designers need to update their repertoire of design concepts so there are new ideas that can be proposed to homeowners. For this particular home refurbishment project, Yong Studio were commissioned by the homeowners for their inventiveness and ability to turn an interior into a wow-worthy space and they certainly exceeded expectations. Not wanting to go down the tried-and-tested route of familiar design concepts, the team at Yong studio felt it would be interesting to introduce a new design idea. With that, we see the Nanyang concept making its debut. The Nanyang Style refers to the use of a mixture of styles and techniques from Chinese pictorial traditions and the School of Paris, which was practiced by a group of artists who featured prominently within the local cultural scene in the years after the end of the Second World War. The Chinese phrase ‘Nanyang’, means south seas, stirred visions of tropical paradise, which is an attempt to fuse distinctive aesthetic traditions of the East and West. At the first glance, the interior of this home appears dark yet colourful and artistic at the same time. Boasting the clever combination of white and black for the walls, this home is a juxtaposition of colours, textures, and layers but the contrasts also complements the interior well that it appears seamless. Colours are introduced to the space through various mediums such as art pieces, furniture, and plants. A canvas greets you at the doo, which also serves as a precursor to what awaits you the more you venture in. in addition to all of this, the living area feels homely and earthy due to the timber elements featured throughout the space. The dining area which is visible from the living area also is a mishmash of colours and textures which oddly works brilliantly in this home that spans over three floors. The wooden dining table in a golden pine tone breaks through the dark walls to give the space a naturalness. The dining chair is a combination of metal chairs and wooden bench. Overhead, colourful pendant lighting brightens up the dining area. Just beyond it is the island bar which is a combination of colours, patterns, and materials. Featuring multi-hued tiles on one side and geometrical pattern on the other, the island bar is a vibrant addition. Behind it is a dry kitchen in onyx which brilliantly contrasts against the brighter island bar. A door leads one to the wet kitchen which is elegant in onyx and dark walnut veneer. Cabinetry in black stands out against the lighter coloured floor and wall tiles that has been strategically place to add a dramatic finish.

The path leading up to the next floor once again plays with the colours black and white and once we are upstairs we come face to face with the master bedroom which feels rich, sumptuous, and elegant despite being minimally furnished. Painted a rich black, the walls of this room serve as a way for the rest of the elements to shine through and it works so well as colours are furniture and finishing. The huge windows allow sunlight to stream in which brightens the space. A bedside wicker chair and dresser in timber tones brings nature into the space.

TAKE ON MINIMALISM When presented with a big space, it is easy to let the imagination and creativity run wild but an interior designer firm’s skills are best showcased when they are able to show restraint and yet unleash their creativity without getting in the way of the home.

I

t is quite common for mostly Asian homeowners to have an altar at the entrance of their home – it could either be placed outside or within the dwelling as a way of seeking blessing and protection. The same can be said for this home situated in Taman Bagan in Butterworth, Pulau Pinang, which has been designed by Zids Design Sdn Bhd. Kicking off the interior is the

small space at the right hand corner of the home which has been dedicated to the deities. The nook is split at the centre to create two different compartments. The home has been craftily designed to make sure that the interior within is cleverly utilised therefore, a wall or panel is never left as is, but is turned into a display space or something functional. This motif can be seen throughout the living area as multiple display shelving have been fashioned into the walls which takes away the need for standalone cabinets while also allowing the owners to display their memorabilia. An avant-garde lighting that adds vibrancy to the otherwise sparsely furnished area. The TV wall receives an uplift with gold paint lining the tile grout. \The dining area is chic and compact where a round four-seater dining table sits. The table top in white contrasts well with the black legs. Slightly further to it is the kitchenette that has been designed mostly in white but intercepted with an olive-green cabinetry. A mini kitchen countertop serves dual role – a space for quick meals and an extra counter for when it is needed. Here, tube lighting in black complements the entire area. Windows help bring in natural light that makes the entire area bright and spacious.

The bedrooms are placed on the first floor to separate the private rooms from the communal areas of the ground floor. Taking on the colour scheme from the first floor, the master bedroom too has been designed in mostly white with gold finishing that elevates the state of the room from ordinary to extraordinary. Using grey and natural brown as complementary hues, the room is made livelier with a restrained design where focus is on the function of the area. The wall behind the bed is a natural tone while the headboard is in dove grey as is the curtains. Similar to the living area, shelves and display consoles are designed seamlessly with the wall, here too the bedstand has been built from within the walls beside the bed. Gold finishing lines the tile grout. To one side of the room are the dresser and built-in cupboards in white. This home is an example of how simplicity can result in an interior that is seamless and elegant while not compromising on the comfort and functional aspects of the home.

Invested in creating a space that features a nice and fitting design that can encourage users to understand and experience a space comfortably, the team at MLA

are dedicated to improving the

functional aspect of a space. Having founded the firm in 2014, Matthew has a strong foundation on design and believes that a functional design and good environment can make the world a better place for everyone. Believing strongly in creating narratives through bespoke ideation and conceptualisation to realise a space that bears values and meaning while solidifying his projects with a strong sense of timelessness, Matthew and his team are not just designing interiors but also designing intelligence. Applying this belief to all of his projects, it doesn’t come as a surprise that Matthew and his team have adopted the mantra to Tachitica Blinds Sdn Bhd’s showroom that is located in Taman Perindustrian Kinrara in Puchong where both the minds behind MLA and Tachitica Blinds had the same idea of creating a new store experience, where visitors are greeted by warmth and hospitality. For this particular showroom, Matthew Lim explained that his team had devised some pretty bold ideas and presented it to the client who were open to all of the suggestions which allowed for a fruitful collaboration that has resulted in a space that is chic, modern, business-like and everything more. Having been mostly involved in designs for retail spaces specifically within the F&B industry, Matthew is aware on how important it is to understand the brand, its offerings, and its business philosophy, which in this instance is ‘a pledge to quality window blind, the very best customer service and no hassle warranties to give every customer a peace of mind’. 18 9 / D I S C O V E RY

MLA Design Sdn Bhd’s role for Tachitica was mainly to revamp and rebrand and for that purpose their intention was to turn the showroom to a lifestyle space rather than a mainstream office setting. Using bold colours that blend perfectly with Tachitica products, the space has been designed in a way that is guest-oriented, creating a welcoming space for guests and also the employees who works there. Setting their minds to planning a warm and welcoming space, a variety of pleasing materials and colour scheme have been used. Brilliantly planned, the light brown wooden wall planks and textured Engineered Stone Flooring at the reception opens the space. Adding intrigue, beige and grey blinds are layered in horizontal and vertical lines, leading the eye towards the lit wording, which is an artistic way to showcase the business’ products. The highly obvious spacing and symmetry of lines in the high contrast wall panel design, product display cabinet, acrylic reception counter with its bronze line and wooden planks denote a steady pace with conviction of good ideas. The designers have made use of this subtle imbedding into the subconscious that states Tachitica Blinds helps unlock the designer in all, bringing style and elegance to a space of your choice, creating something wonderful. Right behind the reception is a semiprivate discussion area that also showcases a mirrored product display cabinet and ceiling design using Tachitica blinds in shades of patterned purple, plain grey and patterned blue. Simple wooden tables with black steel frame are put against a black paneled wall. The grey bucket stools act as a merging colour between high contrast colours in the section. Hanging above are Vintage Metal Pendant lamps that brighten the space and adds a posh ambience. This is truly a unique way to show innovative quality, good service and a wide selection of the product.

A complete showroom needs a lifestyle café and pantry that is fun to immerse in with interactive colour schemes. Both sides of the walls provide a high contrast of painted black and natural brown paneled wood, signifying the diversity each product can fulfil, emphasised by the neon curving lighting – ‘Creativity Never Ends’. Catching the eye immediately is the red built in cabinet in the corner fits a double door refrigerator. Softer tones are used for the hardwood tabletop that separates the pillar and island of mini white tiles. Reflecting the same tones are the wall cabinets and display shelves in cream. Black bar stools leave a polished finish as the island provides a little peekaboo view into the sea blue floor cabinets. The contemporary geometry themed wallpaper completes the look with an air of modern sophistication The room then moves to a relaxing corner of a pale blue lounge and matching round carpet that highlights the contemporary bright yellow wing back chair. Moving further to the reception again are two traditional skyblue wing back chairs – an invitation to relax and take in the beautiful sights

Speaking on Tachitica as a window covering specialist, Matthew explained that as an interior design consultant, proposing an efficient solution for indoor openings is part of their job scope. “Often time, interior designers would suggest maximizing the penetration of natural light into the space, provided that the view is pleasant, however, not all spaces come with a good view,” he said. He also added that natural light is no doubt an advantage for most spaces as having large openings means energy saving and with natural light, it reflects actual colour tone of the space and accords occupants with a view of the exterior. But excessive sunlight can cause overheating, disruptive reflections on screens and discoloration of the furniture, if the incoming light is not treated efficiently, hence it is the interior designer’s responsibility to incorporate the daylight into the design efficiently by using the right shades and covering solutions. As for one of their residential projects, one of their crowning jewels is the Banyan Tree’s award-winning brands residence that is tucked amongst Kuala Lumpur’s skyline. Inspired by the play of the sun throughout the daily hours, they have fully utilize light reflective surface and noble materials palette in combination with clean, modern lines of the furniture elements and wooden shades dominated colour palette. The combination of different beige, grey and ivory nuances starts from the foyer of the home, exploring the calm and luxurious feel of the design. The entire spaces are decided with shinning bronze, marble and hand scraped surface timber floor which reflect the light beautifully. Different textural patches and alternating wooden, brass or marble cladding of walls represent the different functional zones of the spacious living premise. Employing the latest trend in restaurant design, the inD’finity team has incorporated two types of floor finishing so guests can enjoy a unique experience. The ID team included a unique and attractive idea -- huge Zip design to decor the jug that is used to serve food, offering customers a memorable experience even before they taste the food. The open kitchen delivers a sense of confidence and cleanliness. The graffiti art with cement and metal finish in the walls take customers to the streets of Tel Aviv and delivers a sense of elegance and relaxation. Having been actively working on many projects, Darren and his team were thrown a curve ball when the Movement Control Order was implemented in March to flatten the curve of Covid-19 as a handful of projects were put on hold or even cancelled. Not one to be fazed, Darren put on his thinking cap and devised a plan to keep the momentum going but modified to suit the current circumstance. As a nod to the founder’s initial, and as a mark of respect for the call for everyone to stay at home (duduk rumah) and aspiring to help individuals own their dream home, d’Ruma – a medium cost interior design package to help homowners get their dream design – was incepted. Not a stranger to innovating and adapting to changing conditions, Darren hoped with the inception of d’Ruma, inD’finity will be able to provide an interior that is creative and provides functional comfort for all and sundry, where dream homes can be turned into reality.
