ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

THEME ANNUAL DAY 2019 Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation, India, has left a legacy for the generations to follow. His ideals of self-sufficiency, truth and nonviolence, Swaraj or self-governance, to name a few, have been the core strengths towards the freedom that the country has achieved after years of toil and suffering. But, has his ideals seeped down into the core values of the country? Annual Days at DPS MIS have always dealt with themes that teach its children the core values of life, as it is believed that the school Annual Days are platforms where one can reach out to a large number of audience, with a message loud and clear. Our school’s vision and mission speak about the holistic development of the children. The idea behind the choice of this year’s annual day theme elaborates on the thought that the ideologies of the Mahatma, not only would be instilled in our minds, but also would enable us to take them forward, so that we may leave a legacy for the generations to follow. Keeping in mind the 150th Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the school feels that it is the need of the hour to teach its children, the values that the great leader had tried to inculcate among the generations. Nothing greater than this could have been dedicated to the Mahatma, other than the one where we can learn the values that will make us true human beings. Hence its choice of depicting the Mahatma in a style of its own!

ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

MESSAGE FROM PRESIDENT

The Annual Day of DPS-MIS 2019, marks the celebration of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, the Father of our Nation. He was so inspirational and crucial to India’s movement for independence against British colonial rule using methods of civil disobedience and nonviolence. To commemorate his ideas and philosophies, our Annual Day displays a harmonious and captivating cultural fiesta, conveying the messages - patriotism, teamwork, protecting environment, empowerment, equality and justice. Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities not only inculcate social and moral values, pride for Indian culture and tradition and awareness for one’s rights and duties but also make our students good human beings and confident leaders. I appreciate the excellent coordination and synchronization of the performance that clearly reflect hard work and team effort of staff and students. This is my staunch faith and conviction that our students would carve a niche in their career and life by going in lineage and heritage of this temple of learning. ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

MESSAGE FROM VICE‐ PRESIDENT

Anusandhan means making research into the past and I believe that looking into the past can always help us to have a good future. The father of the nation of India, Mahatma Gandhi, is indeed a great personality whose life has many learnings for humankind. With the theme of Anusandhan chosen by DPS MIS, the school has taken its commitment to society and human service to the next level. I congratulate the team for their thoughtfulness in choosing this thought provoking theme. If life is to be lived once, then perhaps making it an example for others is the best thing to do and that is what we find in our Mahatma, our father of the nation, our leader Gandhi. God Bless his departed soul and make us, his well-wishers, imbibe his principles as lifelong learnings. All the best DPS MIS in setting the scene for research into the past by adopting Anusandhan as the theme for the school Annual Day 2019. Yasir Nainar Vice-President DPS‐Modern Indian School

ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL

It’s time again, not just for celebrations, but to delve deep into the ideas of the architects of our nation who helped us to prosper despite differences and the diversity; especially to commemorate the Father of our Nation-Mahatma Gandhi as it is the 150th birth anniversary of the great man. We are proud of the noble soul whose name has become synonymous with non-violence and truth. We at DPS-MIS believe that the most appropriate way to pay tribute to the Mahatma is to value his ideologies, regardless in which time zone we are in. For us in DPS-MIS the Annual Day celebrations is the time when creative ideas compete to be at the fore and it’s the fun-filled time with myriads of opportunities for entertainment. Beyond team spirit it’s the feeling of oneness, the feeling of being one happy family that makes the Annual Day and its preparation memorable. Let it be another glowing episode to the history we create and let “Anusandhan – In pursuit of the Mahatma” be a glowing tribute to the man who shattered the pillars of an empire with non-violence and non-cooperation. “Indeed in a gentle way we can shake the World.” Asna Nafees Principal DPS‐Modern Indian School

ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

TEACHERS SPEAK… What can be the best way to pay a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi than to reinforce his principles in the young minds through the cultural extravaganza depicting relevance of Gandhian values in today’s world. We at DPS MIS firmly believe in imparting value-based education so that we develop sensitized and responsible human beings. The much awaited event of the year ‘Annual Day’ is an important platform to showcase the innate talents of the students. Hence, it gives me immense pleasure to be a part of it and to witness the entire school bursting with energy and excitement preparing for the event. I convey my sincere wishes to all my teammates for the stupendous success of the show, as I believe “Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success”. Ms.Maria Fonseca Activity Coordinator (I & II)

Annual Day 2019: “ANUSANDHAN” is a tribute to Mahatma Gandhi to mark his 150th birth anniversary. It features the relevance of Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and beliefs in present times. It also emphasizes on the importance of human values in our society which help us to grow and develop not only as an individual but at large as a mankind. Our team of students and teachers has engaged good effort to present the theme in the most attractive manner. My best wishes to the team. Ms. Sunitha Rajeev Activity Coordinator (III-V)

Anusandhan – in Pursuit of the Mahatma, the title of the Annual Mega event of our school delves into our minds the Gandhian ideals and beliefs. Like every year, this year too, the theme of the event is surely going to make our children realize that these thoughts, indeed, have a relevance in our lives. We may have come a long way, walking hand in hand with technology. But, can any progress continue in its journey, if it is not held strongly with values that matter the most for humanity? DPS-MIS

ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

I am sure this Anusandhan will reap its benefits in the years to come. I wish all the participants the very best for the show. The sincere efforts of parents and teachers will surely make the path of progress of our children, worthy enough. Ms.Deepa Chakraborty Activity Coordinator (VI-XII )

“Happiness is when what you think, what you say, and what you do are in harmony.” Says Mahatma Gandhi. It indeed gives me immense happiness to see the combined efforts of so many talented teachers and students take a definite shape as they prepare for the Annual Day. It forms an integral part of our school activities. It is one of the most anxiously awaited occasion of celebration, felicitation, feast and festivity when students present their wonderful performances with great passion. Great excitement and hurried activities are visible all around. The Annual Day is a perfect example of how teamwork makes the dream work. Kids practice tirelessly with the utmost zeal, teachers running around getting scripts and screenings ready and not to mention the jitters right before performances but it's all worth it at the end. Watching the show evolve from a dream on paper to a reality on the stage has been an absolute pleasure for us. It is with great enthusiasm and pride that I look forward to the upcoming Annual Day. Wishing the entire team, a very grand success for our Annual Day! Ms. Priyadarshini. R Academic Coordinator (Grade I)

DPS Annual Day 2019, the most awaited programme of the school, gives a platform for the children to display their talents in various categories of dance, music, speaking and acting skills.

ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

With its innovative ideas and novel theme-line, DPS Annual Day has always been at its zenith of glory. It is a wonderful experience to be a part of the greatest celebration of the school, working with a team of dedicated teachers and coordinators. Wishing the students, teachers and the team leaders a very successful Annual Day! Ms.Deepa Lavanya Academic Coordinator (Grade II)

DPS-MIS has an array of activities throughout the year. However, November is one of the important months in the calendar of our school. The most anxiously awaited occasion-the Annual Day is round the corner. Though the school is busy with its regular schedule of weekly tests, external exams, School Olympic Programs, there is never a lack of energy when it comes to children. Great excitement and joyful activities are visible all around. I can see my enthusiastic and energetic team of teachers and students practicing tirelessly to display their talents. As an Academic Coordinator, I feel this is the perfect time for the students to strike a complete balance between academics and co–curricular activities, learning even to work in collaboration and cooperation. DPS MIS being A SCHOOL WITH A DIFFERENCE our Annual Day themes have always been different and talk of the town. As the globe celebrates Mahatma Gandhi on his 150th birth anniversary, DPS MIS has also joined hands by commemorating his principles through the year’s Annual Day theme “Anusandhan- In pursuit of the Mahatma”. The theme is going to speak loud about the reach of Gandhian principles today and even to the future generations. Wishing the entire DPS family ‘All the very best’ and eagerly waiting to witness the mega event. Ms.A. Sharmila Academic Coordinator (III&IV)

ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

“Glory lies in the attempt to reach one’s goal and not in reaching it”. Mahatma Gandhi DPS Annual Day has always been an event of glory and splendor for nearly two decades. Each Annual Day at DPS MIS not only portrays its theme and magnificence, but also displays the teamwork, zeal and enthusiasm of each member of the family who make it happen. It has been a platform to showcase children’s talents in form of art, music, dance and drama. This year as we celebrate the 150th birthday of the father of our nation-Mahatma Gandhi, we have dedicated our Annual Day to Gandhi and have named it as “Anusandhan- In pursuit of the Mahatma”. The journey of this glory has never been achieved in a day or a fortnight. It is a tedious hard work and dedication put together by a team of teachers and students for a period of two to three months. The relentless efforts of teachers, who train the participants to dance, sing and enact and those, who maintain the discipline and keep the non-participants engaged, together work towards reaching the goal of making this event a grand success. I always feel extremely proud and privileged to be a part of this wonderful school. On the occasion of this 19thAnnual Day, I would like to congratulate the entire team and wish all the best to all our participants for yet another superb performance and a grand success of the event…. Ms.Rituparna Roy Ghosh Academic Coordinator (V & VI)

It is again the time of the year when the classrooms, corridors and every corner of the school buzz with activities. Each and every member of the school is committed to show their creativity at best. Every year the school takes up a well thought and a time relevant theme for the Annual Day and this year we are proudly presenting Anusandhan – in Pursuit of the Mahatma, to commemorate and celebrate the 150thBirth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. On the occasion of our School Annual Day celebration, I take the opportunity to congratulate our Principal, Headmistresses, Activity Coordinators, all my

colleagues and the student community, and appreciate all the hard work they have put in to make this day a grand and vibrant one. I feel proud to be a part of this outstanding event. Ms.Rachel Alwyn Academic Coordinator (VII &VIII)

We wish our dear students and the entire team a great success for the Annual Day. Ms.C E Zarine C Jyrwa Costume In-Charge

Costume is an essential feature of any dramatic production and with make- up, constitute the total appearance of the student. It helps to establish the relationship between characters through interpretation. This in essence means that the proper coordination of the production elements contributes in boosting the cultural image of the people whose lives are reflected in the stories being dramatized on stage. Costume and make up could therefore become effective tools for cultural promotion and development. I have always been passionate about the task that has been entrusted to me, now for over a period of years. I would sincerely like to thank Principal Madam for keeping her faith in me by giving this opportunity again and extend my gratitude to Head Mistress, Activity Coordinator and to all my supporting staff. There is an endless field of appreciation and it all goes to the students of DPS Modern Indian School for their efforts in drama and acting. Ms.Suhaila Mohsin Costume In-Charge

“Character may be manifested in the greatest moments, but it is made in the small ones.” -Winston Churchill Annual Day is a season of excitement, enthusiasm, a flurry of activities and an amazing display of talents. Each year, it brings along an array of budding, blooming flowers: our students and their talents in the form of dance, music and colors, all of which culminate into a beautiful bouquet during our much awaited Annual Day. Annual Day 2019 manifests a whole lot of love, confidence, character building and vibrancy depicting such grandeur. Good Luck children! Ms. Shirly Suresh Art Department

Each year, the Annual Day witnesses an arena where activities and academics go hand in hand, bringing about a wonderful amalgamation of both. It is the time when students acquire hands-on experience on collaboration, teamwork and multitasking; along with exhibiting their talents, making it the most fruitful time of the year, for the entire school. I wish the entire team of DPS MIS all the very best. Mr.Mohammed Noman Art Department

I congratulate all the efforts of the entire DPS - MIS family. Ms. Prabuela Suresh Time Table -In -charge (Junior Wing)

No doubt, Annual Day is a festival to the school where a lot of backstage work begins much ahead of time to put up a grand show on the final day. As a Time Table- in- charge, this phase is always an exhaustive one for us but the pleasure experienced on the grand success of the show washes away all the mental and physical tiredness. During this period, since the school runs with multiple parallel activities, it becomes important for us to ensure that no class room goes without teacher’s presence, as the safety of the child is of utmost importance to

us. I would like to extent my warm gratitude to the entire team of teachers for being so patient and prompt in delivering their timely help whenever asked for. I wish this Annual Day a great success. Mr.Nadeem Ahmed Time-Table In-charge (Senior Wing)

Children are the future of every nation across the world. It is today’s generation which can go ahead and make the world a better place. Bright faces that you see here today, while performing on stage, showing their talents and receiving prizes will be the citizens of tomorrow who are going to make a difference in our society. I hope you all are going to appreciate them, as well as the teachers, who have put a lot of effort giving shape to this theme of Annual Day 2019. Academic excellence alone is not enough to make any child an outstanding performer. One should be good at co-curricular activities also. Keeping this perspective in mind our teachers have put in tremendous effort to make this performance a rocking one. Wishing them Good Luck! Mr. Arunachalam. N. K Time Table Coordinator (Senior Wing)

All students as well as parents are ecstatic that the Annual Day is going to be held on 27 November 2019. I am also waiting for this mega event in our school. Annual Day is the platform where the children get the opportunity to express their wonderful talents. I was a timorous child, but after performing several times in the Annual Day my hesitation has completely vanished and I have even become a good speaker. This year's Annual Day topic is Anusandhan, because on 2nd October 2019 it was the 150th Birthday of Gandhiji, The Father of our Nation. We cannot explain how phenomenal the Annual Day is going to be. Imaad Hussain(V I)

This year’s Annual Day is really going to be fun, I told myself before my first day of practice. Every Annual Day comes with a unique theme and this year too there is no exception. This year’s Annual Day theme helped me understand more about Gandhiji. Annual Days help us to be confident and face a big crowd with no inhibitions. Teachers are the master minds behind our performance on the stage. Without them no Annual Day is complete. Participating in Annual Day makes me proud

I have been part of the choir team for five years. I have been mesmerized by the variety of tunes of different songs which were and are part of the school choir. Being a part of the school choir has helped me to improve my confidence. It has also helped me to remove the stage fear I had. I thank all the teachers for their contribution in making the Annual Days enthusiastic for all the audience. I am extremely excited about this year’s Annual Day. Atul Suresh Nair (VII I)

I have been participating in the school Annual Day for over six years now. All these years’ Annual Days were spectacular but none of them were as exciting as of this year. My experience here has been the best. The theme is about Gandhi. I am in Kerala dance (Mohiniyattam) also known as the South Indian dance. I like my dance very much. Even in the absence of our dance teacher, our dance-incharges took the initiative to take control of our team. We did lots of practice and never felt tired. Why? Just because our team loves to dance. Annual Day is one of the best cultural events which is held in the school. It involves different programs bringing students of different grades together for showcasing their talent and skill set. This year, it is on Mahatma Gandhi’s 150th Birth Anniversary. This theme really intrigued me. I love dancing; participating in the Annual Day gave me an opportunity to showcase my talent in what I love doing. It also gave me an opportunity to meet new people and interact with my peers. I learnt so much from this experience. I became a better dancer and I was able to improve my communication skills. Overall, I think Annual Day is a great opportunity for students to tap their talents and I will certainly miss this amazing day as it is my last year participating in the Annual Day. Srivyas A.K (IX D) One of the most anxiously awaited occasions in any school is its Annual Day. This is the day which gets engraved in our minds for years to come. This is the time when students get an opportunity to participate and showcase their performing arts and talents and, in the process, bring out the essence of cultural diversity. I have enjoyed every bit of it including stay-backs, Saturday practises and zero periods. This year’s theme celebrating Gandhi’s 150thBirth Anniversary is very unique and demanded a lot of hard work and efforts. All the hard work of our teachers, dance choreographers and music teachers have been fruitful. I hope that the exuberant spirit of our Annual Day keeps going on for years to come and these celebrations continue to provide a platform to showcase our talents. Krish Nagrani (VIII E)

ANUSANDHAN -In pursuit of the Mahatma

I still remember how nervous I was on getting selected for the Annual Day as I was going to dance in front of the entire school. But I wanted to be one of the best students of our school and make our school proud, so I set aside my nervousness and went to my first practice session, where I met ten girls who loved dance as much as I did. We all got along very well; we learnt a lot from each other, corrected each other in the steps and taught the person who had missed the practice session together. We spent most of our time in practising but we also got to know each other very well. We cracked a lot of jokes, we shared our food and water and we helped each other. But the best part of this Annual Day was that we danced and spent time together. Varsha Prabhakaran (VIII I)
