Market OverviewWest AfricaThe modern cinema industry in West Africa is undergoing rapid development, with expansions on-going across major cities in its Anglophone countries. Since 2014, Gross Box Oﬀice (GBO) has grown year-on-year at an average rate of 27%, with the total number of cinema companies amounting to 33 as of December 2019. In 2019, Nigeria, the leading territory in the region, was recognized with the Emerging Cinema Market Award, received by Filmhouse Cinemas.There are also cinemas operating in the Francophone countries of Sub-saharan Africa, which spans the western, eastern and southern parts of the continent.
