DIRECTOR’S LETTER The Jewish Education Center of South Florida is proud to welcome you to our 17th Year Gala Dinner. Together, we share the important mission of paving the way for the Jews of South Florida by supporting and creating enriching programs that will ensure the long-lasting vitality of our great Jewish community. The JEC is on the front lines of Jewish outreach. Offering six different programs that grow each year, we work hard to combat the apathy that threatens our future. We share the beauty and relevance of our heritage in every way we can, because we believe learning and understanding Judaism is the key to building a strong Jewish identity. We think innovatively to create inclusive, enriching life experiences for Jewish people of all ages and backgrounds, making sure every Jew feels welcome. Our 6 Divisions: The Billi Marcus Camp Nageela Boca Ohr High School Program FAU College Program Adult Education Men’s & Women’s Programming Shabbat & High Holidays Program Over the past 17 years, the JEC has devoted its efforts to developing and growing all of our divisions. Tonight we are proud to recognize two outstanding honorees: Mr. Jeffrey Abramson, and Dr. Robert Chavez. It is our honor and pleasure to recognize their commitment to Torah learning and commitment to Jewish continuity. May we all continue to share the beauty of our rich heritage and fill our homes with Torah, Mitzvos, and growth for generations to come. Warmly,

Jeffrey Abramson JEWISH UNITY AWARDEE
Jeffrey Abramson grew up in Detroit in a non-observant home. After he was Bar Mitzvah, he turned his back on Judaism for decades, until he rekindled his connection to Judaism years later through the JEC. In 1996, he moved to South Florida where he met his wife, Rita, with whom he shares three children: Gabbi, Blake and Logann. He works as a retirement planner, helping clients from pre-retirement to the retirement stage. The Abramsons were introduced to the JEC in 2010 and enrolled their children in JEC’s Hebrew School. Shortly after, two of their children joined the summer camp, and Jeffrey began learning one-on-one with a JEC rabbi and attending monthly guest lectures. The Abramson Family has been attending the High Holiday services each year, and Jeffrey has connected many local men and women to JEC programs. He has been a dedicated board member for years. For 20+ years, Jeffrey went through a very dark period. With the support of the JEC and a spiritual program, today he is living in the light of the Torah and its wisdom. He is blessed to have a personal relationship with Hashem, a peaceful mind, a loving heart, and the ability to help others. He cherishes a renewed connection to Judaism and looks forward to continued spiritual growth with the JEC.

Robert Chavez JEWISH UNITY AWARDEE
Robert E. Chavez D.D.S. was born in The Bronx, New York. He and his wife Leene are just short of celebrating their 45th anniversary, and share four children: Andrew, Kenneth, Howard, and Jenna, and seven beautiful grandchildren. After receiving a teaching degree, Robert taught in the New York City school system for two years, and then embarked on a dentistry career. He graduated from Howard University School of Dentistry in 1971, followed by a rotating dental internship at United States Public Health Service. He graduated from Boston University Goldman School of Graduated Dentistry, specializing in orthodontics, in 1974. Robert was in private practice until 2018. He is semi-retired and continues to be associated with a multi-specialty, multi-office practice in Massachusetts with offices from Cape Cod to Boston along the South Shore Corridor. He was a founding member of the Stoughton Youth Commission in 1981 and served as a youth commissioner until 2011. He is the longest-serving Community Health Center Orthodontist in the United States and was appointed to the Harvard University faculty for 35 years starting in 1976. He is grateful to be connected to the JEC and enjoys learning wisdom from the weekly Torah portion with JEC Director Rabbi Feder every week. He looks forward to continued Jewish learning and growth with the JEC.
