ANNUAL REPORT

RMHC of Central PA 2020 Annual Report RMHC’s 2020 Annual Report was the first long-form print design piece I had done entirely on my own. I was poking around the internet for some inspiration for the design, and a lot of what was out there was very corporate-looking. Because the RMHC brand is meant to be playful and child-like, I wanted a design style that reflected that. The RMHC annual reports from previous years were more simple and stuck strictly to the RMHC blue, red, and yellow color scheme. Once I decided on the abstract, watercolor design, my ideas came together and I produced an entirely unique annual report. I was proud to create something so full of color and life for a year that was particularly difficult for the organization.

RMHC of Central PA Ongoing Social Media As Marketing & Communications Manager at RMHC of Central PA, I plan and create all content for all social media channels. Becasue I also schedule, post, and manage the RMHC social channels, I am able to use engagement and performance analytics to steer the content I create. These are just a few examples.

RMHC of Central PA Ongoing Social Media RMHC of Central PA has no shortage of ways for people to “get involved” and support their mission. Several programs exist simultaneously, and the sheer number of opportunities available can be confusing. I keep this top-of-mind as I plan social content, and try my best to space out the “asks” and fill the in-between with as much feel-good and missionimpact content as possible.

SOCIAL MEDIA C O N T. RMHC SOCIAL

RMHC of Central PA Ongoing Social Media Since 2020, safety precautions have been in place at the Ronald McDonald House that keep people from congregating in the common areas of the House. These precautions inhibit authentic connections with the families almost impossible, which makes building a content calendar extremely difficult. Knowing that genuine, raw-looking family content would perform best on RMHC of Central PA’s channels, but not having access to sources to get it from is an ongoing challenge for developing social content.

RMHC of Central PA Clay Shoot Fundraising Event This was the first year for RMHC of Central PA to host a clay shoot fundraiser. It presented a great opportunity for me to create an event logo that was free of branding created before my time as Marketing & Comms. Manager. To the right is the initial logo I created for the clay shoot event. I was happy with the result of this design, but unfortunately, RMHC leadership decided to change the event name to Sportsman Clays Tournament, inspiring another re-do.

LADIES NIGHT

RMHC of Central PA 6th Annual Ladies Night Out I was extremely excited to take a whack at this event logo. While the entire event name is cumbersome to use in both design and written content, the old logo made it feel even bulkier to me. My goal for the new logo was to give it a new look while still keeping it recognizable to former attendees who identify with the brand.

FB EVENT COVER GRAPHICS

RMHC was looking to revamp the Ladies Night event to hopefully bring back its popularity in the community to what it was before the pandemic. To do this, they were investing more in the venue and caterer. When I learned this was the goal, I knew the old brand needed some revamping too.

LNO POSTCARD

Because RMHC was investing in a fancier venue for Ladies Night, I felt it was crucial to base the postcard design off of venue visuals to entice our audience. I also felt electing for a white-heavy design would really pop, as all other Ladies Night postcards used the old denim background or contained a lot of blue.

EXTRA GIVE

RMHC of Central PA Extraordinary Give Day 2021 Lancaster’s Extra Give Day in 2020 took place not long after I started at RMHC. By fall 2021, I was fully immersed in the RMHC brand, which allowed me to utilize my design skills and creative vision to develop a cohesive campaign across several marketing channels. This spread includes just a few.

RMHC of Central PA Extraordinary Give Day 2021 The tone of the RMHC brand is playful and subject matter is always family-oriented. One of the challenging aspects of RMHC’s brand is that they do not allow stock photography, putting me at the mercy of whatever high-res images I can get my hands on from other RMHC chapters. This is a family who stayed at the RMHC in Arizona. They were my favorite series of images and it just so happened that several AAPI awareness and anti-discrimination campaigns were going on when at the time these campaign assets were created. It was coincidental, but it tied really well into current events.

EXTRA GIVE

RMHC of Central PA Extraordinary Give 2021 To the right are the emails sent to Lancaster-area donors the Monday before ExtraGive and Friday morning at 8 a.m. I strived to keep a consistent theme and tone throughout all artwork for this campaign. When crafting the language for these emails, I knew it was important to tailor it and make it feel personal to Lancaster County. So, at every opportunity possible, I reiterated how RMHC impacts families from Lancaster.

BILLBOARDS

In an effort to expand RMHC’s donor base into the Lancaster area, I launched a 4-week brand awareness campaign leading up to Extra Give. The billboards provided an opportunity to build on our brand identity so that ExtraGive participants would recognize RMHC and feel more inclined to donate.

Working with Lamar York/Lancaster, I secured RMHC five digital billboards with 6-10 six-second slots in hightraffic areas of Lancaster. I created several general brand-awareness designs and a few Lancaser-oriented designs, including one to recognize RMHC’s partnership with Penn Medicine Lancaster General Hospital and one to plug our participation in ExtraGive 2021.

We raised $4,000 more during ExtraGive 2021 than we did the prior year.

RMHC of Central PA Giving Tuesday 2021 RMHC of Central PA participates in Giving Tuesday every year through a Facebook Fundraiser. Because this campaign relies heavily on social media engagement, I wanted to create something that stood out from other campaigns I had done recently. RMHC Global conducted a photoshoot at two RMHC chapters in mid-2021 to use for their Year End campaign. Because RMHC of Central PA does its Light A Light campaign as its Year End campaign, I choose to use the new imagery for Giving Tuesday.

RMHC of Central PA Light A Light Campaign 2021

LIGHT A LIGHT

Pre-pandemic, RMHC would host an in-person community event at the Ronald McDonald House® in Hershey, which they called “Light A Light! Share A Night!” Because of the safety precautions set in place for the vulnerable patients and families who stay there, having an in-person event was not possible for 2020 or 2021. In 2021, our team created a multi-faceted fundraising campaign to capitalize on the holiday giving season.

LIGHT A LIGHT

To promote the Light A Light! Share A Night! Campaign and Silent Auction, I reached out to Good Day PA to see if they had any opportunities for RMHC. Next thing I knew, I was on set preparing for my first live TV interview. It was nerve-wracking to be waiting in a green room by myself—COVID precautions meant I couldn’t bring anyone with me—but the interview itself was over before I could blink. Afterwards, I am happy I pushed myself outside my comfort zone and welcome the opportunity to do it again.

For the Light A Light! campaign, we created a virtual tree lighting opportunity on our website. It included a simplistic design that would “light up” and recognize donors when they gifted $1,000. The concept seemed simple, but it required continuous updates as its popularity grew. By the end, I had to create a completely new design with different specs and more trees in order to accomodate all of the donor names. The campaign was a success.

RMHC of Central PA 27th Annual Golf Classic After creating a new logo and theme for RMHC’s Golf Classic in 2021, I wanted to build upon the momentum and extend the changes to more of the event’s materials. The brochure is vital to the success of this fundraising event, as it lays out all of the sponsorship options and provides a form for corporations and individuals to secure them.

2022 was the first year for RMHC of Central PA’s clay shoot, formally known as the Sporting Clays Tournament. We needed to lay a lot of groundwork for this brand-new event, and for me, this included creating a completely unique style and feel for its promotional materials. The flyer to the right was created to promote the event in sportsman clubs and other networking spaces. I was purposeful in the typeface, color scheme, and imagery used in the piece to appeal to that particular audience and entice them to secure a sponsorship.

VA L E N T I N E ’S D AY

As part of RMHC’s stewardship goals for 2022, I designed a Valentine’s Day-themed email to thank donors for their support. I found a RMHC-approved, high-quality image, transfered the subject to a solid background, utilized heart icons from the Noun Project, and added a handwritten script to tie it all together. I applied the script to a header image containing our logo in InDesign and put all of the pieces together in Constant Contact. I used the same base image as basis for a social post. Instead of directing the thank you messaging solely at donors, I kept the language open to include RMHC’s faithful social media supporters who may not donate monetarily, but actively share and engage with RMHC content.

RMHC of Central PA 2021 Holiday Thank You to Donors & Supporters Similar to the Valentine’s Day email, every year RMHC sends a holiday-themed email to thank supporters who donated throughout the year. RMHC Global had provided the featured photo for a separate, non-holiday promotion, but I saw the opportunity to tie the Ronald McDonald’s striped socks and holiday stockings together. Before designing the email content, I was asked to research holiday cards with foil to send to RMHC’s high-level donors. Because almost every online option was going to cost us a pretty penny once postage was added into the equation, I created a front and back card that we could have printed in bulk commercially and mailed non-profit rate. In the end, the Executive Director changed her mind about making the investment this year, but, I ended up using the bones of the card design for the header in the holiday email.

COVER ART

After looking at some abstract annual report designs, I wanted to see if I could recreate the look of pour art using my iPad. These were the resulting cover options I might use if I was making an RMHC annual report centered around a more abstract design.
