Marie Stopes Ethiopia Commemorated World March 8, 2011 Event In Addis Ababa The 2011 March 8 was commemorated colorfully around the world. In Ethiopia, it was celebrated under the theme “Equal Education, Equal Access to E ducation, Training Technology: pathway to Decent and Technology Work for Women”. March 8 was celebrated for the 100th time globally, and for the 35th time in Ethiopia. Marie Stopes International Ethiopia office has also commemorated the date in collaboration with the Ethiopian Human Rights Commission and the Addis Ababa Women Association in Addis Ababa Meeting Hall. Around 1,500 women and women leaders from all Addis AbabaSub cities as well as high delegates from different Federal Ministries and AddisAbaba Mayor’s Office attended the event. Accessing reproductive health services for the betterment and well- being of Ethiopian women was the sub theme of the event which was flagged by MSIE. From MSIE perspective the March 8 event reminds us the importance of reaffirming our commitment to serve the underserved and poor women by paving the way to access information and services so as to realize “Children by Choice, Not Chance” motto of the organization. Thus, different and important events/messages in relation to MSIE Reproductive health and family planning activities were conveyed during the event. MSIE has also supported and jointly observed the event with additional district women association offices in Dire Dawa, Ambo, Dessie, and Bahir Dar. The five years strategic plan of MSIE is giving due emphasis women as a centre of attention for pushing forwards in serving clients with an array of RH/FP services at all levels.
