This week is the average last frost in our area, but I am not sure we have many average years any longer. We moved a lot of tomatoes outside last week to toughen them up for you. We got some more transplanting done on the rainy days and continue to pot up other things. If you have been out, we will likely have things out that were not there before. Just like last year, there are a huge amount of people coming out. We are trying to do more baskets and other things so that we do not run out early as we did last year. We have been able to keep the greenhouses pretty full up to this point, but probably not so much from here on out. Come see us while the plants are in their prime and the selection is good. Thank you to all who have been out, you have helped make my dream come true.

Stabbing in Amsterdam sends one to hospital

On March 30th, BCSO deputies responded to a residence in Amsterdam Missouri in reference to a stabbing. While enroute deputies were advised that the male subject that was reportedly stabbed was taken to Cass Medical Center by another person. Deputies and a Detective arrived on scene while another Detective was re-routed to Cass Medical Center in Harrisonville. While on scene deputies interviewed a female subject who stated that there was a physical domestic disturbance at the residence and that she was the victim of being choked during the altercation. She stated that during the altercation both parties had fallen on the floor. Deputies observed multiple items on the floor to include several kitchen knives. Deputies observed a laceration on her hand and she stated she did not know how she received that injury. Deputies processed the residence which was an RV type of trailer. While the scene was being processed a second Detective interviewed the male subject at the hospital. The male subject stated that there was a disturbance at the residence and he was attempting to leave when the female became physical and stabbed him in the left chest area. The male subject stated that he never touched the female and did not know how she would have received the injury to her hand. Deputies observed and photographed a small cut on the male subject’s left chest. The cut did not need any major medical treatment and the male was released from the hospital. There were no independent witnesses to the incident as they were the only two present at the time. The case will be presented to the Bates County Prosecutor to determine if and who charges would be filed against. courtesy Bates County Sheriff’s Office

Adrian Optimist Students of the Month

The Adrian Optimist Club is pleased to honor Students of the Month from the Miami, Ballard, and Adrian schools. Criteria for this honor center on outstanding academic and civic achievement and school spirit. Staff at each of the schools make the selection, and their decision is based on expansion of these criteria. Selection is based on the criteria, but a student stepping up to a particular task will come to play in it. Each student is honored with a certificate of recognition from the Adrian Optimist Club and $20.00 in Adrian Chamber of Commerce “Chamber Bucks”. The Miami Student of the Month for March is Jayden Reitz, a Senior. Jayden is the son of Jamie and Paul Reitz. Jayden’s in school activities include Quiz Bowl, Band, and NHS. He is active in his church youth group. Jayden says, “Something that motivates me is music, as it helps get me in a good mind set. An inspiration of mine is the success I see in others. It can help to provide a goal or something to look forward to. Miami staff say, “Always goes above and beyond to help others. Never complains, even helps teachers out with the little things. Always keeps us laughing and has a great sense of humor. Overall a great attitude.” Jayden plans to go to college to become a paramedic and then work his way to becoming a medical examiner. The Adrian Student of the Month is Kameron Collier, a Senior. Kameron is the daughter of Kirsten and Scott Collier. Kirsten is active in FFA in school and in 4H showing and judging livestock outside of school. Kameron plans to attend Fort Scott Community College and be on the livestock judging team. The Ballard Student of the Month is Payton Miller. Payton, a Junior, is the son of Brandon and Casie Miller. Payton is a proud member of the Ballard Basketball team and enjoys catfishing, hunting, and walking in the woods. Payton’s inspirational quote by Sun Tzu is. “He who is destined to defeat, first fights and afterwards looks for victory.” Staff at Ballard say. “Over the years Payton has matured into a polite, helpful, and positive student. He is thoughtful and considerate to other students and teachers. He is not afraid to try new things and is committed to improving after starting. I am delighted to nominate Payton and believe it is beyond time to celebrate his efforts, heart, and great attitude. Payton plans to train to become an EMT.

Butler Medicalodge April employee of the month

Congratulations to Butler Medicalodge April employee spotlight of the month, Mary Greenwood. Mary is our HR manager, she is also our Jill Of All Trades! She has been the Business Office Manager, staffing coordinator, CNA and transportation aide. Mary has been with the Medicalodges family for 14 ½ years. She chose to work at the Lodge because she loves working with residents. The staff and residents are like a second family to her. Mary loves reading, gardening, photography and scrapbooking. She is an open book, there is not much we don’t know about her, but one thing we may not know is that she was the first born grandchild named after her Grandpa and Grandma “Mary Larverne”. Her Grandpa had her on a horse by herself at the age of 2 ½ . A word of advice that she would give to her fellow coworkers is: “when the stress gets to you ,take a breath and give it to God!’P.S. Mary will be saying goodbye to her Lodge family at the end of this month! She will definitely be missed by all! Medicalodges of Butler appreciates all that you have done “Myrtle”, so congrats and wishing you the best of luck! -Courtesy Butler Medicalodge
