MISSION STATEMENT Sanctified by the Sacraments, we at Saint Sebastian Parish give our Time, our Talent, and our Treasure for the Glory of God.

Pastor’s Perspective
Next Saturday, June 28, four men will be ordained to the priesthood at 10 am at Saint Paul Cathedral in Oakland: Deacon Michael Ackerman, Deacon Michael Conway, Deacon Kenneth Marlovits, and one who is familiar to most of us here at Saint Sebastian Parish, Deacon Thomas Schluep. The soon-to-be Father Tom has spent the past three summers with us to learn about parish ministry. During this time he has endeared himself to many parishioners and particularly to our staff. His caring manner as well as his wonderful sense of humor has made him a delightful addition to our parish. We are thrilled that he is reaching his goal after years of formation. He is turning his life over to the Church, and those of us who are “old warhorses” with many years of experience welcome him to our brotherhood. The Mass of Ordination of Priests is an event that every Catholic should experience. While full of the beauty of ancient Church tradition, its prayerful simplicity makes it something all can understand and appreciate. Consider attending this colorful celebration at Saint Paul Cathedral for an experience you will not forget. The new Father Tom will celebrate his First Mass at his home parish of Saint Mary on Middle Road in Glenshaw on Sunday, June 29 at 11 am. Meanwhile, there will be an Evening of Adoration and Praise at Saint Paul Seminary in Crafton from 7:30 – 9:00 pm on Thursday, June 26, to pray for the four men being ordained priests and for an increase in vocations to the priesthood. Confessions also will be available. All are invited, and there will be a light reception afterward. Saint Paul Seminary is easy to find and is only about 20 minutes from our church. If you are unable to attend any of these events but would like to send Father Tom a card, you can send it to our rectory and we will see that he gets it. IN OTHER NEWS: Our spectacular Parish Festival is just two weeks away! In the planning stages since last October, it promises to be better than ever. Our Festival Committee has been working hard to make preparations, but we still need YOU to lend a hand, even if for just one evening. Call the rectory if you can give us a few hours of your time….stay tuned for more news…. Genesis Baby Bottle Collection----Thank You!!!!!!! The Respect Life Committee would like to extend our sincere appreciation to all of you who contributed to the annual baby bottle campaign for Genesis of Pittsburgh. As usual, St. Sebastian parishioners were very generous!! We collected and delivered over $5,000 to Genesis in support of their awesome ministry to young mothers and their babies. This amount has far exceeded what has been given in past years. Recently, we received this note from Genesis: Mrs. Mary Jo Robbins Social Ministry

Social Ministry
“Genesis of Pittsburgh wishes to extend our gratitude to everyone who donated towards the Mother’s Day Drive to benefit our mission to help pregnant women in crisis. You raised an amazing amount! On behalf of all of the women and their babies you are helping-Thank You! Your donations will help us with the Genesis Adoption Center opening at 550 California Avenue in Avalon, PA in the fall of this year. Look for information regarding our Open House in the upcoming months.”
If you have not yet returned your baby bottle, please do so as soon as possible!
NHCO’s Annual Back-to-School Collection is on! North Hills Community Outreach is collecting new backpacks and school supplies for students in kindergarten through 12. New backpacks, notebooks, binders, folders, pencils, pens-anything students need to succeed! Please contact Vicki at [email protected] or call 412-487-6316 opt 1. Donations can be dropped off at NHCO Allison Park, 1975 Ferguson Rd, Monday thru Friday, 9am to 4pm through July 31.
The Food Pantry is in need of: cereal, condiments, Quaker oats, canned peas, pudding and jello, instant mashed potatoes (boxes and sides), Knorr pasta sides (not rice) jars of pasta sauce, liquid detergent, and paper products. Just a reminder: Privacy laws limit information sharing between the hospital and the Church. Sadly, some people end up feeling that their church forgot them when in reality we just did not know what had happened. Please call or email us to keep us informed. Also know that every hospital has a chaplain (priest) assigned to provide spiritual care and offer the Sacrament of Anointing. If you or a loved one is hospitalized outside of our community, please speak up and tell staff that you are Catholic and would like to receive Holy Communion and/or a visit from a priest. Most hospitals are very accommodating. Science has confirmed what many of us already know from experience: healing is enhanced when we are being cared for body, soul, and spirit.
Peter’s Pence Collection The second collection at all Masses next weekend is for the support of the Holy Father’s work through the Peter’s Pence Collection. Through this gift, you join in solidarity with him as a witness of charity. Thank you for your generous support.

FAITH FORMATION
Corpus Christi Sunday ~ The Eucharist is the center of our faith. Breaking Open the Word: 1 Corinthians 10:16- 17 Listen to the Word: As you read and listen to the words of this challenging section of Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, what catches your ear? What single word or phrase lingers now in your memory? Look into Your Life: Children: How does receiving Holy Communion change how you treat those around you? Youth: Jesus tells us that through the Eucharist we will remain in Him and He is us. How does the Eucharist keep you in relationship with Jesus? Adults: Share one way that the Eucharist connects us as “one body” – how does it change the way we relate to each other?
