Requirements and experience:  Grade 12, with a Higher Certificate in Occupational Directed Training. Diploma in Occupational Directed Training will be an added advantage.  3 - 5 year experience in facilitation training courses in Earth Moving Equipment (preferably Drills MD6640,6290 or D65, Grader, FEL and Hydraulic Face Shovel 6060), and other support equipment (such as Forklift, VMC, Overhead/Mobile Cranes, Cherry Picker, Telehandler, Truck Mounted Crane and Tractor Loader Backhoe).  Registered with NTA as an Assessor and Moderator.  Facilitation certification.  Experience in conducting safety related training courses such as Basic Rigging, Working at Height and Permit to Work.  Knowledge of various unit standard requirements.  Valid Code B/BE Driver’s License.

anlam, together with its project partner Shaetonhodi Optometrist, recently launched the third edition of a programme known as the Sanlam Vision for Change Project.

Under the project, which is in its third year of operation, a team of optometrists visits selected schools to conduct eye screening tests. Those children who are found to need glasses receive them free of charge. The project was launched at the Sanlam

offices in Outapi and will target three schools at the town. The schools to benefit from the project this year are John Pandeni Junior Secondary School, David Sheehama Senior Secondary School and Errki Tauya Junior Secondary School. Speaking at the media

launch, Sanlam agency manager Roberta da Costa said she sees projects of this nature as an investment in the leaders of tomorrow. “Sanlam is guaranteeing a bright future and a level playing field for the learners who are to benefit from it,” she said. n 27 September, the Namibia University of Science and Technology (Nust) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Namibia signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU). The MoU is based on mutual areas of support and is aimed at building capacity at Nust to provide research and analysis on key developmental issues that touch on economic, social and environmental challenges. The common areas of interest are informed decision-making for national development, evidence-based analytical perspectives, policy direction and Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) achievements. These fit well within the timeframe of the Fifth National Development Plan (NDP5), as well as the global SDGs. Alka Bhatia, the UNDP resident representative, mentioned the agreement is a significant milestone in their ongoing collaboration.

The Challenge The successful candidate will manage and co-ordinate engineering services to Namdeb and to ensure compliance with Regulations affecting the safety of persons and equipment within area of responsibility. The candidate should be self-driven with a record of accomplishment of delivery and ability to shape and lead high performance. The Ideal Applicant • BSc/BEng in Mechanical or Electrical engineering or, • BTech and registered as Incorporated Engineer with the Engineering Council of Namibia. • Registration with the Namibian Engineering Council or be eligible for registration (in the appropriate category) with the Engineering Council of Namibia. • Five years Engineering Experience in mining environment. • Excellent organizational skills and ability to function well in a multi-disciplinary team will be essential. • Good communication skills and the ability to interact with external consultants, contractors and internal clients.
