ABOUT THE MOURNING FAMILY FOUNDATION The Mourning Family Foundation (MFF) is a not-for profit 501(c)(3) public fundraising foundation created by Alonzo and Tracy Mourning. The Mourning Family Foundation was created to inspire others through advocacy, education, and enrichment services and allows donors with varied interests in children’s issues the benefit of giving to several charities from their one contribution. Since 1997, Mourning Family Foundation has raised over $25 million for various programs that aid in the development of children and their families, particularly those in socioeconomically challenged communities. The Mourning Family Foundation has helped change the trajectory for hundreds of young people from South Florida’s disadvantaged communities.
MOURNING FAMILY FOUNDATION TESTIMONIAL There are a lot of kids out there who need help, who are getting a lot of negative reinforcement. And is there more that we can do to give them the sense that their country cares about them and values them and is willing to invest in them?” - President Barack Obama
I would like to think that there is some symmetry in what he stands for as far as this country is concerned and as far as our focus in helping young people and providing opportunities for them across the board. -Alonzo Mourning

Reason For The Responsibility Tour The reason for this tour is very evident. There is a declining presence of men in the homes of young black males. This absence leads to everything that is wrong with the black family. This tour is built to address both young black men that will one day be fathers and older black men whom are already fathers. We will also be directly communicating with communities to help them to understand that this problem was not created solely by black men. It is due to a continual barrage of negative press and images that are prevalent in today’s society. This discussion will deal with education, violence and career readiness. We hope to highlight the importance of education. It is a documented fact that the more education you have the more you will earn. It is also a common fact that the more education you have the less likely you are to commit serious crimes. We know that education is a key factor to building a strong home. We will also discuss violence in our communities and the growing crime statistics throughout our community that align with fatherless homes. We will seek to find remedies to this. While we will discuss crime and education we will talk about how we must build a bridge toward career readiness. The time has come to have real discussions around job training for kids that have been involved with the criminal justice system. We will also talk about the needs of colleges to build real world majors for kids that are coming to them to prepare themselves for the next 20 to 30 years of employment. These city to city tours will act as beacon of hope that we know works based on the 20+ years of experience and success that we have experienced in Miami and our youth Center
