A NOTE FROM DR. RANDY BURKS, SUPERINTENDENT "Single-mindedness of purpose leads to joy. Being divided in purpose leads to stress and frustration. My desire is for Hamlin Collegiate ISD to be laser focused on improving the lives of our students through our transformative work as a school district- bringing hope, purpose, and tangible positive outcomes for college, for careers, but most importantly for life. "

One of the biggest successes of the year may be the launch of the Hamlin Collegiate Education Foundation. Run by locals, alumni, and Hamlin supporters, it seeks to raise private-sector funds to support academic goals and achievements for the district. It seeks financial contributions from Hamlin Collegiate families, the community at large, and corporate donors to support this mission. As an independent 501(c)3 non-profit, the foundation is transparent to its donors; every donation supports a student in Hamlin who will now have a better opportunity to be a well-educated, job-secure adult who can give back to our community. Due to the hard work and innovation from the leaders in the community, Hamlin has positioned itself for sustained success in education and athletics. Hamlin has become a 'destination' school district.

HAMLIN COLLEGIATE HIGH SCHOOL

UPDATES FROM MR. MATT POND DEAN OF SECONDARY EDUCATION

At Hamlin Collegiate ISD, our 2025 goal is for 100% of our students to graduate with an Associate Degree and/or Industry Certification. Even though this is year one of being a Collegiate HS campus, we currently have 103 students participating in college classes, out of our 122 high school students. (Grades 9-12). Our enrolled in grades 7-12 has increased from 160 total students to 185 students. Our sophomore class is currently on track to graduate with an Associate Degree. However, we have several juniors who will graduate with an Associate Degree by the end of next year. We have added Career Pathways in Business Management, Healthcare Therapeutics, Animal Science, HVAC and Sheet Metal, Nursing Science, Welding, Teaching and Training, Drone, Robotics, Cyber Security and Programming, and Software Development. At Hamlin Collegiate, we want to prepare our students for the future and for their future jobs. We want our students to be highly qualified, prepared and marketable by the time they graduate. BAND BOOSTERS ARE BACK

Band director, Mr. Adrian Santana, has been given a big task: restore the Big Green Marching Band program.. To succeed, it will require a culture shift at the high school, so he decided to start younger. After laying the ground work with our junior high students, we are beginning to see some of the fruits of that labor. The junior high band has even joined the Big Green Marching band in the stands for the last few football games. "Their size, talent, and enjoyment of band gives us all reason to be excited about the future!" -Valuree Hood

HAMLIN COLLEGIATE ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

SUPPORTING EACH CHILD IN 2020 Welcoming young students back to school after a long quarantine means meeting each student where they are. There is no one-size-fits-all approach to teaching during a pandemic.

SPOTLIGHT

The school district purchased and implemented testing programs to map out what each student needs intellectually after the break. They use the test scores to implement tutoring for each student where they need more support. They also want to address student mental health. They are leaning into the Montessori method to allow students freedom to communicate, grow, and take ownership of their work in a living and safe environment.

They will continue to 'MAP test' and grow the Montessori program at the elementary campus to best educate your students with their whole hearts.

This has been an enormous undertaking- just ask our Early childhood teachers who took on the same challenge last year! We want to thank and congratulate all of our teachers who have been going above and beyond in pursuing their own higher education and training. True life-long learners are the most inspiring teachers!
