PLY INSIGHT - January 2021
Editorial Editorial Indian companies have performed better than expected in the second quarter and the economy is set to return to normal in 2021. There was an atmosphere of disappointment when the ban was announced in March. But less than 2 months later India stood on its feet. The government took some steps, which we were in a good position. The pain was greater in the rst trimester. But June's performance was surprising, indicating good times to come. Data for the September quarter show India has grown faster than anticipated. Capacity utilization was more than 90 percent. The supply chain also reached the same level in terms of operational performance and nancial performance was better than expected. Also, there was good retail customer activity in the second quarter. The epidemic has presented challenges before us. There is pressure in sectors like manufacturing and hospitality and there is a lot of problem in this area. Corporate India adopted the new normalcy and focused on high levels of productivity and efciency. The lessons learned from this were used in practice. If we look at the
change in behavior regarding retail, it is known that customers have also adopted it. Face Veneer shortage at the year end stunned the plywood industry. After all, how long we will be dependent on imported Face? Strict norms imposed either in our import policy or supplier countries make the situation worse for our industries. Face veneer derived from Forest Logs are not sustainable for long. This is high time now that plywood manufacturers should stand a thought process. Popular & Safeda was started in agro forestry. Around 30 years back. Efforts made by WIMCO and ITC, has now reached such height that industry is reaping now. Now, we should come forward in industry which will only secure our future in the industry. Melia Dubia is developed by our scientists from IPIRTI and FRI for Face Veneer. Efforts are to be made for farming and assurance to farmers. Suresh Bahety 9050800888
