Dress Code A dress code in dance class plays an important part of your child’s dance education. A dress code creates an added sense of discipline in the classroom and equality among the students. The focus stays on having a good class rather than comparing dance wardrobes. Baggy shirts or shorts make it difficult to observe the dancer’s body well enough to offer the technical corrections needed to build strong dancers. Straight knees and proper body alignment are hard to see underneath layers of baggy clothing. Students must wear cover-ups to and from class and hair must be up and away from the face. Shantel’s Dance Academy dress code is as follows: Pre-School Combo Classes (Ages 2-5): Girls: Black or Pink Leotards and tights, Pink Ballet Shoes and Tan Tap Shoes. Pink or Black Ballet Skirts are allowed but cannot be more than 12” long. Boys: Black Shorts or Pants, Black or white shirt, Black Ballet Shoes and Black Tap Shoes. Combo Classes (Ages 6-10): Girls: Black or Pink Leotards and tights, Pink Ballet Shoes and Tan Tap Shoes. Pink or Black Ballet Skirts are allowed but cannot be more than 12” long. Studio Policies Attendance: Regularity and consistency is an important part of a dancer’s self-discipline. Excessive tardiness and absences can hold back the student as well as the entire class. When To Stay Home: Stay home if the dancer or anyone in the house has a fever, coughing, shortness of breath, and/or not feeling well. Anyone who has been exposed to someone who has tested positive (or is suspected of having) COVID-19 should stay home for 14 days and monitor for symptoms. The dancer may attend their class virtually if they are feeling well. Class Procedures: Parents, friends, and siblings are not allowed in the dance rooms. Prompt arrival & departure eliminates distractions to all classes. Please make sure students have gone to the bathroom before class as this takes up valuable class time. After class, students must remain in building until parents come in the studio. No one is permitted to wait outside the studio. No food or drinks are allowed in the dance rooms. Water only is allowed in dancer’s dance bag. Virtual students: Please see our Zoom class procedure sheet. Waiting Room & Lobby Rules: Our waiting room/lobby could be closed during times where we must keep a social distance and restricted on the number of people allowed in the building. When the waiting room/ lobby is open, parents can watch their children from the waiting room only. Parents in the dance room is distracting to the students, takes up valuable dance space, and could contribute to accidents. All dancers must wait either outside the building or the waiting room/lobby until their scheduled class time. Parents are asked to keep students and waiting siblings from aggressive horseplay in the waiting areas. Students should not be performing any gymnastics in the halls or waiting areas. Please be courteous to fellow parents. Our waiting areas can become crowded and a little common courtesy can go a long way. Staff Contact: Our front desk staff is available during office hours to answer any questions you might have. If you need to speak with your child’s teacher, please call to set up a call/appointment with Mrs. Shantel Robeaux. You may also e-mail us at [email protected] Private Lessons and Class Changes: All private lessons and class changes must be approved by Mrs. Shantel Robeaux.
