5. FIRE FIGHTING MEASURES Extinguishing Media Specific Hazards Precautions in connection with Fire

Use extinguishing media suitable for surrounding fire situation. Nil. Firefighters should wear Self-Contained Breathing Apparatus and full protective clothing to minimise exposure. Promptly isolate the scene by removing all persons from the vicinity of the incident if there is a fire. If safe to do so, remove undamaged containers from fire area.

6. ACCIDENTAL RELEASE MEASURES Spills & Disposal

Sweep up, but avoid generating dust. Vacuum area. Collect and seal in properly labelled drums for disposal. Neutralise remaining product with lime or soda ash, adjusting pH to 6-10. Wash area down with excess water.

7. HANDLING AND STORAGE Handling

Repeated or prolonged exposure without personal protection should be avoided in order to lessen the possibility of disorders. It is essential that all who come into contact with this material maintain high standards of personal hygiene ie. washing hands prior to eating, drinking or going to the toilet. Use only in a well ventilated area. Keep container closed and bung in place. This product should be stored in a cool, dry, well ventilated area, out of the reach of children and away from oxidising agents. Do not store for prolonged periods in direct sunlight. Keep containers closed when not in use and securely sealed and protected against physical damage. Inspect regularly for deficiencies such as damage or leaks.

8. EXPOSURE CONTROLS, PERSONAL PROTECTION Exposure Limits

No value assigned for this specific material by the National Occupational Health and Safety Commission (NOHSC). However as with all chemicals, exposure should be kept to the least possible levels. Respiratory Protection Product is a damp powder with low dusting potential, and the method of use further reduces dusting potential, however care should be exercised to avoid breathing of dust. Where ventilation is inadequate and/or dust is generated, the use of an approved respirator with dust filter or a supplied air respirator complying with AS/NZS 1715 and AS/NZS 1716 is recommended, depending on surrounding work conditions. Final choice of appropriate breathing protection is dependant upon actual airborne concentrations and the type of breathing protection required will vary according to individual circumstances. Expert advice may be required to make this decision. Reference should be made to Australian Standards AS/NZS 1715 – Selection, Use and Maintenance of Respiratory Protective Devices; and AS/NZS 1716 – Respiratory Protective Devices. Not available May cause irritation to the mouth, nose and throat. Inhalation of dust may result in respiratory irritation. Chronic respiratory problems may occur with long term inhalation of fine dusts, which may continue after exposure has ceased. While unlikely with the use of damp or wet Quickleen-S, it is still recommended that care should be exercised to avoid generating dusts from any dried product. Ingestion can cause nausea and vomiting. Not a likely source of exposure, however, may be harmful if swallowed in large amounts. Potential symptoms include nausea, diarrhoea, abdominal pain and vomiting. May cause irritation with prolonged contact with the skin, which can result in redness, itchiness, swelling and possibly lead to dermatitis. Repeated or prolonged contact with this material may result in systematic absorption leading to possible harmful or toxic effects similar to those of ingestion and inhalation. A severe eye irritant. May cause eye soreness due to abrasive nature of material. Prolonged and repeated exposure through skin contact, inhalation or swallowing of this material with no personal protection may result in toxic effects.
