ME E T RYDER’S 2018 LON D ON M A R ATHON D UO In October we announced our 2018 London Marathon duo, Wing Yee Cheung – Finance Manager, and Jodie Williams - Control Room Leader at Lichfield. We can all agree that it won’t be an easy task, so let’s all get behind them and show our support. With their determination and our joint support, we can help both of them cross the line and raise funds for the British Red Cross. We took some time to catch up with Wing and Jodie to find out more about our marathon duo. Here’s what Wing had to say…

“ It’s a challenge, but Ryder and the British Red Cross are behind you”

got more than an incentive to get out of my comfort zone.” Meet Jodie Williams, otherwise known as the Paula Radcliffe of Rushall. Here’s what she said say…

Why did you want to take part in the Marathon? “I was listening to Chris Evans speak about Children in Need on Radio Two, where he was talking with ordinary people who’d run marathons for charity. Hearing these people take part and complete them was definitely a big motivation for me.

How are you feeling about taking part? It’s daunting but I’m looking forward to it. My daughter thought I was crazy at first but now she’s already getting excited!

“I’ve run three half marathons – Birmingham, Edinburgh and Nottingham. So I thought if I’m going to do another marathon it may as well be London. It’s a challenge, but Ryder and the British Red Cross are behind you, so I’ve

Other than crossing the line, what are you looking forward to? “I’m looking forward to raising money for the British Red Cross, and representing the company.

WI N T E R’S COM IN G . ARE YOU PREPARED? On average, 22% of all UK road accidents are caused by bad weather. Severe weather can be both frightening and dangerous for motorists, and with winter drawing closer and closer now’s the time to make sure you’re best prepared. So what can you do to make sure you’re ready for the adverse weather? Here are some tips: • Use air conditioning if available for faster demisting and to reduce condensation on cold windows • Ensure your vehicle is well-maintained through an up-to-date MOT, regular service, and your regular walk-round checks • Always take a well-charged phone in case of emergencies, but don’t be tempted to use it when driving • Pack a winter driving kit in case of emergency. This might include: a torch, a blanket and warm clothes.

“ My Friend has even named me Paula Radcliffe of Rushall” The support that’s been coming through has been amazing. It’ll be nice to have people cheering you on when you’re running.” Who’s your inspiration? “Paula Radcliffe, just because of what she has achieved. I’d like to say I’d be like Mo Farah, who wouldn’t want to be like him? What these people have achieved and put their bodies through is unbelievable. “My friend has even named me Paula Radcliffe of Rushall.” You can read more of Jodie and Wing’s interviews on HUB360.

EVER BET TER Our Customer Five KPI’s

Listening to feedback is important in making us Ever better. And as a result of feedback and months of preparation, December sees the launch of Operation’s new Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) measuring metrics.

The five KPIs, MOT, VMI, VOR, Compliance and NBS, marry together our customers’ requirements with operation deliverables, ensuring alignment throughout our different functions. These new KPI measurement metrics are a great way to advocate and showcase the great work we’ve done for a customer and help ensure everybody is focused on delivering quality customer service. We began trialling the KPIs in operation in December, and the transition to full customer reports will take place at the end of Q1 in 2018.

If we roll back the years to 1987, it was a busy year. Maggie Thatcher was elected Prime Minister for a third time, and work began on the Channel Tunnel. But here, 1987 marked the start of six Ryder journeys. Congratulations to Nigel Martin, UVS & Asset Management Director; John Gorman, Account Director; Peter Halkett, National Account Mananger; Phillip Millward, Lead Hand Technician; Christopher Hambleton Asset Administration Manager; Neal

Mobley, Workshop Supervisor; and Linda James, Programme Manager. 30 years ago Nigel, Linda, and Peter began their journeys as Rental Reps; Neal joined Ryder as a Fitter; Chris Hambleton as a Workshop Controller; Phillip Millward as a HGV Fitter; John Gorman as a Transport Consultant. Each journey will have been different, but one thing is for certain: their work and service over the course of 30 years is greatly valued.

And the thanks doesn’t stop there. You can now send a personal congratulatory message to any Long Service awardee. All you have to do is visit our new Long Service pages on HUB360.

Your co-operation and commitment to testing the tablets, training materials, and supporting sessions, during Phase 1 of the project is greatly valued. PHASE 1 – COMPLETED This provided our Mobile Engineers with improved technology in the form of tablets, replacing the current PDAs, and equipping them with the tools they need to do their day-to-day jobs. PHASE 2 – UNDERWAY As you will know, this phase is focused on our back office methods of working. By integrating the IT systems we will be able to work as one team.
