Delhi on January 01, 2019. He was sworn in as the Chief Information Commissioner by Hon’ble President of India on November 07, 2020 at Rashtrapati Bhawan. Born on October 4, 1958 in an eminent family from Bihar, he began his schooling in Chesham (UK) before he joined St Xavier’s High School, Patna in 1966. He moved to St. Michael’s High School, Patna in 1970 and passed the Indian School Certificate (ISC) examination from there in 1974. He graduated with Honours in History from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi and also did his Masters in History from Delhi University. He has a diploma in Arabic from the American University in Cairo. He was honoured with the Distinguished Xaverian award2018 by the St Xavier’s Alumni Association Patna, in December 2018. During his long diplomatic career from 1983 to 2016, Sri Sinha was Counsellor, Permanent Mission of India to the UN; Consul General of India, Dubai; Ambassador of India to Venezuela; Additional Secretary (Pakistan, Afghanistan, Iran), MEA, New Delhi; High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka and to the United Kingdom. He is the author of an article, “India and the Commonwealth” that was published in ‘The House’, a magazine of the British Parliament on April 13, 2018 on the eve of the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting held in UK. He is married to Girija, and they have two sons: Ambuj and Vinayak.

ANNUAL CHILDREN'S TREAT 2020-2021 The Flagship Programme of the Club i.e. the Annual Children's Treat will be held on Sunday, 24th January, 2021 at 10 a.m. onwards at Nicco Park, Salt Lake, Kolkata and simultaneously at our five RCCs : Bisnupur, Dara, Krishnanagar, Kanaidanga and Duttapukur as well as at Rotary Sadan for the students of our NCLCL and Cultural Section. The programme this year is being spread out to avoid large gathering of children at a single venue in line with COVID-19 guidelines issued by the authorities.

Mr. Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha Cental Information Commissioner Mr. Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha is a seasoned diplomat and in a career in diplomacy spanning over 37 years, he handled several important assignments at the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi, as Deputy Secretary, Joint Secretary and Additional Secretary dealing with Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iran and in various Indian diplomatic missions, including those in Pakistan, Sri Lanka, United Nations and United Kingdom. He joined the Indian Foreign Service in August 1981 and superannuated in October, 2018. He was appointed as Information Commissioner in the Central Information Commission, New

NEW YEAR'S GIFT FROM INTERNATIONAL COMMITTEE RC CALCUTTA, 1 JANUARY 2021 COVID 19 CHANGED THE GROUND RULES IT OPENED OPPORTINITIES In the Ramayana of Rotary Club of Calcutta, if there had been a Raam sent to Vanabass, it was Saumen Ray, the Centenary Chair and International Chair who got stuck in London since March 2020.Now Santa has arrived to a white Christmas in England, let's see what gifts he broughtin his socks for Rotary Club of Calcutta. To summarise, the International Committee is firing on all cylinders, resulting in:

International Connection 1. We connected to Rotary E- Club of London Cemetery and Rotary London Passport Club for ideas on membership growth 2. Our international network has reached all time high connecting more than 25 new Rotary Clubs across the world with Rotary Club of Calcutta as the guest speaker in many international clubs. 3. We were invited as Guest Speaker at Rotary Club of Hampstead London and addressed a number of Rotary Clubs. Many Rotary Clubs have shown further interest to invite us. 4. Saumen Ray of Rotary Club of Calcutta has been classified as a UK Govt. Key Worker for front line services during COVID to support women and children in the United Kingdom who have escaped domestic violence. He has been working with many other Rotary Clubs arranging and packing 20,000 gifts for children and women living in refuge 'safe houses”.

Global Grants, Foreign District Grants and Foreign Funded Projects 5. 6. 7. 8.

Howrah South Point Simple School Global Grant has been approved and monies received. Calcutta Mercy Hospital Covid Global Grant project (USD 54,000.OO) has been approved and monies received WASH 3 and WASH 4, each of value USD 50,000 for toilets and bore wells are currently progressing in implementation. WASH 5 Global Grant application (USD 50,000) has been acknowledged by - Rotary Foundation sent queries, which we have addressed, and we replied meticulously. 9. WASH 6 for another USD 50,000 has been planned and waiting at the signal to get a platform to enter the station. 10. Ayodhya Pahar Rotary Free Residential School for 200 Adibashi Students – This is a INR 40,00,000.00 (forty lakhs) projects is complete and we are now carrying out the London District Grant project with RC Battersea Park to furnish the accommodation. 11. Calcutta Priyamvada Devi Birla Eye Hospital prevention of childhood blindness in premature babies project, done jointly with Eye Foundation of America is progressing well - saving the eyesight of some 1000 babies since January 2020. 12. Rotary Club of Calcutta steered a fundraising through Zoom from the talk of Dr V K Raju of Eye Foundation of America on prevention of childhood blindness, hosted by Rotary Club of Battersea Park and helped raise significant monies - some of which maycome to projects in India.

Peace and Environment 13. We have begun a Kashmir - Peace and Saving Paradise projectjointly with RC Kashmir and RC Srinagar, starting with planting 10,000 saplings. 14. Dr. V K Raju of Eye Foundation of America and RC Morgan Town have offered to support an eye clinic in Kashmir with equipment, training and guidance. 15. We had a zoom meeting on 15thDecember 2020, with top speakers from United Kingdom and Canada along with some 50 International Rotarians form 10 countries, as well as many Rotarians form Indian Rotary Clubs. London PDG Tony Sharma and Canadian PDG Kees van der Pol are taking particular interest bridging a synergy between Rotary International Indus Valley Peace Park (a multibillion dollar project) and our Kashmir project. 16. Rotary International is now very interested and we are looking for land in Kashmir for an ECO Park Project developing the seven avenues of services of Rotary. Two International Partner Clubs have been already been identified for a Global Grant project in Kashmir. DRFC Anirudha Roy Chowdhury supports this initiative.

Circle of Centennial Rotary Clubs (CCRC) 17. CCRC is moving fast and we have now eight international clubs joining CCRC 18. We have set up a CCRC Rotarian Action Group and applied for CCRC Booth at the Taipei Rotary Convention in 2021. 19. You should join CCRC Rotarian Action Group through My Rotary selecting the option for Exchange Ideas and Joining a Group (CCRC Rotarian Action Group).

MINUTES OF THE 4795TH REGULAR WEEKLY MEETING HELD ON TUESDAY, 5TH JANUARY, 2021 AT 6.00 P.M. ON ZOOM 1 President, Rtn. Debashis Mitra welcomed all Members and Guests and called the 4795th Regular Weekly Meeting of the Club to order. 2 National Anthem was led by Rtn. Shinjini Bose. 3 Minutes of the 4794th Weekly Meeting of the Club held on 1st January, 2021 were conrmed. 4 The President welcomed the day's Guest speaker football legend Padmashri Shri Bhaichung Bhutia, in the usual Rotary manner. 5 President welcomed all visiting Rotarians, guests and Interactors from Silver Point School and South Point School who were present in the meeting and conveyed greetings to their clubs. 6 President Reported : a. The Club celebrated its 101st Charter Day along with Regular Weekly Meeting on Friday, 1st January, 2021 at 6 p.m. physically at Rotary Sadan in the presence of Chief Guesst Hon'ble Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar, Guest of Honour RIPE Shekhar Mehta Special Guest DG Sudip Mukherjee. The meeting was followed by Fellowship and Dinner hosted by Rtns. Roshni Ganguly and Indrajit Ganguly. b. A team from the Club, PP Haladhar Dey, Hony. Treasurer Ashok Kumar Basu (AB4), Rtns. Atindra Nath Sen, Amit Ghosh, Udit Chand Mitra, Suman Chakraborty and President visited RCC Kanaidanga and Krishnanagar and distributed Blankets to the poor villagers on Sunday, 3rd January,2021. c. President Elect Sujata Pyne, Rtns. Debashis Biswas, P.S. Chauhan, Anand Sharma and President attended Food Festival organised by Rotaract Club of Calcutta on Sunday, 3rd January,2021 at Rotary Sadan between 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. 7 President Announced : a. Secretary, Bodhi Brata Das, Hony. Joint Secretary, Rtn. Sriranjani Joshi would conduct the Club business : 8 At the request of the President, Honorary Joint Secretary, Rtn Sriranjani Joshi thereafter conducted the Club business thus : a. Hony. Jt. Secretary announced the names of Rotarians, celebrating their birthdays and wedding anniversaries during the week ending 11th January,2021 and conveyed best wishes to them. b. She informed members that the next Weekly Meeting of the Club would be held on Tuesday, 12th January,2021 at 6 p.m. on Zoom. Speaker : Mr. Yashvardhan Kumar Sinha, Chief Information Commissioner of India. Topic : “The Right to Information Act 2000“ 9 Mr. Bhaichung Bhutia addressed the audience on “The Future of Indian Football”. Questions raised by many members which were answered by the speaker. 10 At the request of the President, Rtn Jeet Banerjee offered a formal vote of thanks to Shri Bhaichung Bhutia on behalf of the Club. 11 The Club remembered with good wishes Rotary Club of Calcutta Lansdowne, India , RI Dist. 3291, the Home Club of our Dist. Governor. 12 Meeting was adjoined at 7.04 p.m.
