WHAT IS CBD?

Cannabidiol is a phytocannabinoid discovered in 1940, which is non-psychoactive. It is one of at least 113 cannabinoids identified in hemp plants, accounting for up to 40% of the plant’s extract. Unlike the most well-known cannabinoid, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), CBD is not psychoactive, meaning that it won’t make you ‘high’ – the sensation most commonly associated with cannabis.

CBD STANDS FOR:

In order to feel the full benefits of CBD, it could take up to 4-5 weeks of continuous use.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF CBD

CBD has a long and rich history with mankind. Humans have been cultivating hemp for 4000 years. Hemp is derived from the Cannabis sativa plant. However, the cultivation and use of the plant determine whether the plant is the colloquial cannabis (your everyday recreational marijuana) or more industrial hemp (used in textiles, papers, and ropes). Early Chinese records show hemp as a primary crop; From the time of the earliest primitive societies (about 4,000– 5,000 years ago) to the Qin and Han dynasties (221 BC to 220 AD) ancient Chinese techniques of hemp sowing, cultivation, and processing developed rapidly and became fairly advanced. In fact, the Xia Xiao Zheng (the oldest recorded agricultural treatise) referred to hemp as one of the main crops grown in China.

The TRUE history of CBD did not start until 1940, when American organic chemist Roger Adams isolated the CBD compound, but he was not able to determine what he had isolated.

The medical effects of CBD were really publicised in America once the story of Charlotte Figi appeared, in which a young girl’s rare seizure disorder was treated by a potent CBD treatment.

In the mid-1950s, when scientists could extract cannabidiol and prove that CBD is a non-psychoactive component of the hemp plant, the study and subsequent legal battle for CBD begaan.

Following this story, the battle for legal CBD ensued. Following the developments in scientific and medical research, the legality of CBD was brought back into question.

By the end of the 1950s, CBD had been outlawed in all 50 US states.

Major landmark events must be noted in the legalisation of CBD. On October 7, 2003, the United States government patented the first CBD-based patent (used as a neuroprotectant) under U.S. Patent.

In 1960, Israeli organic chemist Raphael Mechoulam both isolated and described the chemical structure of CBD, thus enabling chemists to confirm that CBD was a non-psychoactive constituent of cannabis. By the mid-1970s, the British Pharmacopoeia was referring to CBD tinctures for medical use.

In 2017, the first steps were taken for the FDA to approve CBD for medical uses.

THE ENDOCANNABINOID SYSTEM

Much like your nervous system sends signals between different parts of your body as its main control centre, the endocannabinoid system regulates many bodily processes and is made up of a series of receptors which react to cannabinoids present within cannabis plants. These receptors come in two main forms, CB1 and CB2. CB1 receptors have been found primarily in the brain and central nervous system. CB2 receptors can be found in the immune system, as well as the digestive tract, pancreas and spleen. Without being overly technical, each human body and the way it works is different, and as a result your endocannabinoid system could contain more of a receptor than average, such as CB1 (meaning they may be very sensitive to a cannabinoid like THC), or less of a receptor like CB2 (meaning they may be less sensitive to the therapeutic effects of a cannabinoid like CBD). For individuals who are less sensitive, this may mean they need to consume CBD in higher doses, or add other cannabinoids and terpenes to the mix, especially those that target other receptors within your endocannabinoid system such as CB1. This is wellknown as a full spectrum CBD product. A study published in 2010 in the British Journal of Pharmacology provided further evidence that receptors vary in the density with which they appear in various parts of the body, mostly the brain, central nervous system, and immune system. It is unclear without extensive research into each and every single person we will come across, and serve with CBD, to decipher the “structure” or “contents” of their CB1 & CB2 receptors or their density. This means that we cannot effectively judge how cannabinoids will affect them in the most positive way, so we should advise the use of a Full Spectrum product where needed, to allow the best potential outcome without having to consume an excessive amount of CBD.

ISOLATE VS. FULL SPECTRUM CBD

Full Spectrum Full Spectrum CBD contains all the cannabinoids found in the plant in addition to essential vitamins, minerals, omega fatty acids, flavonoids, chlorophyll and terpenes. When we talk about cannabis terpenes, we are talking about the natural aromatics of the oil itself, i.e. the taste and smell. Terpenes contain flavours such as: Limonene (Citrus), Pinene (Pine), Myrcene (Mango, Lemongrass, Thyme) amongst many others. In addition to CBD, other cannabinoids found in hemp include CBG (cannabigerol). There are around 120+ known cannabinoids in hemp plants. There are many more health properties included in full spectrum CBD, due to the inclusion of more than one type of cannabinoid.

Isolate CBD isolate is cannabidiol in its purest form without cannabis and residual cannabinoids. Because of the high CBD concentration, CBD isolate products are highly potent, which means only a small amount is needed to induce the effects desired with almost immediate effect. Whilst some CBD products may take this isolate form, it is important to note that other products will utilise the isolate as a base formula, adding extra cannabinoid compounds in such as terpenes for additional effect. In this sense, cannabinoid products can fall somewhere in the middle of Full Spectrum and CBD isolate with many different combinations.

WHAT ARE TERPENOIDS?

Terpenes (pronounced tur-peens), or terpenoids, are natural aromatics found within the oils of all plants. There are over 20,000 terpenes in existence, at least 100 are found within Hemp plants. Terpenoids have also been known to activate certain receptors located within our endocannabinoid system. Terpenes such as Limonene have a lemon/lime flavour profile, and is said to activate the CB1 receptor within our brains, which can help to reduce anxiety. Myrcene, which has a mango flavour profile, can help to reduce muscle inflammation. Terpene infused oils are well known within the CBD industry as a full spectrum product. Full spectrum products typically contain more than one non-psychoactive cannabinoid extract, as well as terpenes.

SPECIES OF ORIGIN

Cannabis, Hemp and Marijuana are not the same thing. Cannabis is a family of plants with two primary classifications , Indica and Sativa. While marijuana can be considered a member of either the Indica or Sativa families, Hemp is a member of the Cannabis Sativa family. There are different species of Cannabis Sativa. Most species contain high levels of THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol). However, the species of cannabis sativa used most commonly in CBD (Cannabidiol) extraction, is the Hemp plant. Hemp contains high levels of CBD, as well as up to 0.3% of THC levels. This is the legal limit for production of CBD in the UK. Hemp features skinny leaves that are concentrated towards the top of the plant, and grows taller and skinnier than Marijuana, with few branches beneath its upper portion. When both are compared side-by-side, there are clear differences. Hemp is primarily used for industrial purposes, as it is capable of producing hundreds of crucial resources such as paper, clothing, building materials, biofuel, food products, oils and more. Whereas high THC content plants such as ‘marijuana’ are grown primarily for recreational use, such as inhaling or ingesting.

What are oral drops?

As with our extensive product range, e-liquids usually consist of three main elements including PG, VG and flavourings, and, if included, nicotine.

What are balms used for?

What are capsules for?

In similarity to oral drops, CBD sprays have been devised to be taken sublingually (under the tongue), providing the benefit of sublingual absorption directly into the bloodstream for quick relief.

CBD oil can also be applied topically as a balm or cream, rubbed directly into your skin for absorption through the pores. This is a useful delivery method for using CBD to treat localised pain and injury throughout the body.

Much like everyday tablets, CBD capsules are taken orally by swallowing and digesting.

CBD balms can also help to address inflammatory skin rashes and bacterial skin infections.

CBD capsules are great for people who would rather not inhale vapour, or who would prefer a more controlled way of dosing.

CBD oral drops are liquid extracts combining CBDrich hemp oil and vegetable glycerin. Other variants may include coconut oil. Oral drops, or tinctures, are taken orally using a pipette by placing drops under your tongue. Oral drops are primarily absorbed through the sublingual vein (located under the tongue), therefore the best way to use oral drops is sublingually (under the tongue). This makes them different to edibles, which are absorbed through the stomach and must go through the digestive process.

CBD e-liquids are made up of the same compounds as e-liquids with a single difference - pharmaceutical grade hemp extracts. Inhaling any vapourised substance has been scientifically proven to be one of the most effective, and quickest, way for active ingredients to enter your bloodstream.

Some customers may prefer to use a pump action spray in order to more effectively control their dosage, or perhaps simply for ease-ofuse.

Some people use CBD oil to relieve pain associated with chronic conditions, such as arthritis.

OUR CBD E-LIQUIDS Pure CBD e-liquids have been designed to create associations with other medicinal products that we already recognise and use within our day-to-day lives.
