Welcome to Sunflow Ltd., Manufacturers of the Invincible Heatingtm range of Electric Radiators Built in Britain using refractory clay technology Discovered by the Romans, Developed by the Germans, Perfected* by the British Sunflow Invincible Heaters™
For years we have been asked: “Why can’t these heaters be manufacturerd in Britain?” Our answer is “Now they are”! After all, Sunflow is in a location known worldwide for British engineering excellence.
percentage of alumina. The clever bit is to embed an element in a block that is thin enough to bring a room to full temperature within a reasonable time.

Re-think our heating Sunflow electric heating gives you 100% of the heat in any single room, at exactly the time and temperature of your choosing. Why heat your whole house to the same temperature when you only use one, two or three rooms at a time? This fine degree of control means you can manage your heating - and more importantly manage your heating bills. The special characteristic of Sunflow Invincible Heaters is the thermal conductivity of the inside blocks, our refractory clay blocks have a high

What makes this heating so different? Manufactured in our Wiltshire factory, we combine the Best of British in all aspects of design, manufacturing, hand finishing and premium powder coating. We are the only British manufacturer of refractory clay heaters and believe our standards are unsurpassed, even when compared with the best German or other European refractory models. Sunflow Heaters are able to boast the British Standards Institute ‘Kitemark’.
This heating is very different to the conventional heating we are used to in the UK in a number of ways - some examples: No great disruption during installation No boilers or pipework so: No floorboards up No holes through the wall There is NO servicing No dust No loss of energy up the flue or chimney No long waiting periods for heat
No more clanging pipes No more air locks No tanks and No leaks Sunflow Invincible Heaters are low input, so most can be plugged straight into standard sockets However, don’t be fooled by how easy it is to install. This is no ordinary heating. It really is versatile. You can still get the power and superb economy without having to do a whole house or building. If you want to, you can heat just one room. The modular design is perfect if you have a problem area or cold spot such as a conservatory, workshop, loft room or garage office. The heaters can provide controllable warmth 24 hours a day and are able to cope with SUDDEN weather change without you having to do anything at all. All this with potentially extremely low running costs.
HUGE SAVINGS - As design engineers and manufacturers, there are no middle men, wholesalers or distributors. With our low overheads you are assured of the very best heaters at the lowest price possible.
Our heaters are recognised for being unique in design and build quality. Although other heaters may work on a similar principle, ours are better.
COMPARISON WITH EXISTING HEATING SYSTEMS
WHY?
1. E7 takes up to 7 hours to reach full charge, hence the name. • Our heaters are hot in minutes.
At the heart of our heaters is an individually hand-finished refractory clay core; not ceramic or porcelain, but the type of clay used in kilns. The core is tested at each stage of the building process and allowed to run for up to three hours before they even leave the factory. The final check is when they reach you, the customer. Then there are no moving parts and the substantial build quality means there is nothing to wear out. You have the proven reliability of a heater or heating system that will go on and on with a very long life expectancy. But for your reassurance, in the unlikely event that something should go wrong with your heaters, you have a FULL 10 years warranty (including controls) as standard at no extra cost. Guarantee. The reliability of our heating enables us to give you guarantees FAR exceeding that required by law.
Economy Seven (abbreviated to E7) night storage heaters
2. E7 steadily loses heat throughout the day and in the evening can run out needing an expensive boost from additional heating. • Our heaters HOLD every room at your desired level, if the outside temperature should change they react accordingly - Fast 3. E7 needs careful planning based on the weather forecast. • Ours automatically react to changes in climate without you doing anything, you just set the thermostat and timer and forget them, they do it all for you. 4. E7 are big bulky and heavy. • Our heaters are extremely slim-line and can be supplied free standing, wall mounted or on castors. They can be moved easily for decorating or if you change the room around. 5. E7 are difficult to control. • Ours allow complete control over EVERY room at ALL times 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The thermostat will monitor change and react accordingly.
6. E7 needs a separate meter and a fully qualified electrician to install. • Most of our heaters simply plug in!
THE SECRET IS IN THE DESIGN
7. If you are on E7, then for 17 hours of the day, every day, your electricity costs more than someone who is not on the tariff. (Based on published rates). • Ours use the standard electricity tariff. It is a fact that when we replace E7 night storage heaters, we replace the 3ft units which draw 3.4 to 3.7 kilowatts, with no more than a 2 kilowatt Sunflow heater (often with an even lower input unit)! The following is from an email sent to us from a customer* 8th April 2011:
“I thought you would like to hear that my consumption of electricity for this first quarter using your radiators has dropped by approximately 64% on last year’s first quarter when we were using our old night storage heaters. It is almost unbelievable but the figures do not lie! 2464 units in 2011 compared with 6673 units in 2010.” *This customer is a retired electrical engineer.
Note how our heater gives an even temperature throughout the room - no more cold feet!
Gas Fire How much does that cost to run? Gas cheap? You will be surprised! The next example of running costs relates to a typical gas fire, the type in homes up and down the country. The performance of this fire, taken from the manufacturers brochure, is 6.95 kW of gas IN per hour to get 2.3kW of heat OUT. With current gas prices around 4 pence per kWh (low rate), this gas fire uses 4 x 6.95 = 27.8p per hour - over two thirds of which goes straight up the flue to keep the sky warm.
Cheap electric fires/fan heaters/oil fired heaters These are cheap to buy but expensive to run. One thing to note is the fact that cheap or faulty thermostats can add a third to your electricity bill. Also, if they are not sized to the space to be heated they will run at maximum, virtually nonstop.
Gas/oil/lpg central heating We have already covered some of the drawbacks of central heating. However, no matter how efficient the boiler is claimed to be, the heat circulating round the pipe circuit has to lose heat as it travels. How efficient is the system when the water eventually reaches the last radiator? What if you are only using one or two rooms? Even with individual thermostatic valves on radiators, the heat has still got to circulate under the floorboards and around the complete circuit, wasting heat. Why is the central thermostat placed halfway up a wall? Possibly the least effective method of keeping us warm when we are sitting down in the living room.
Maintenance and depreciation Our heaters have a complete guarantee for 10 years - no servicing. A gas or oil boiler needs servicing every year - an annual bill or monthly insurance charge. If a boiler has to be replaced after 8 years it becomes worthless
Our heating = no maintenance Sunflow Heating - Construction The unique fluted design of our radiators means they have an ENORMOUS surface area offering far greater radiant heat distribution into a room compared to a standard radiator. Just 1ft of these radiators is equivalent to 5ft of a standard wet radiator. The flutes also play another major role, further reducing running costs and increasing heat distribution.
As the coldest air is always at floor level, we need to circulate the air to equalise temperature across the room. Cold air at floor level is naturally attracted to warmth from the heater, the flutes then act like chimneys, pulling in cold air at floor level, loading it with warmth and then channelling it back into the room. This natural air movement combined with the huge radiant surface has comforting results. Intelligent Controls - Easy to Use Our British made range of easy to use controls all share one important feature. The LED light alerts you to the fact that the radiator is giving its optimum performance. When the light shines red the heater is drawing full power e.g. when the heating is first turned on in a cold room. Green - means the heater is on but not drawing electricity e.g. when the inside heater temperature is hot enough that there is no need to draw power. Amber - this is where the heater is approaching full temperature and the controls tell the heater to draw reduced power to avoid over using electricity. A major design innovation. Precision Temperature.
Many thermostats have a switching differential (hysterisis) of about 1.5 degrees C. This means they switch heaters on at full power until the room reaches the target temperature, then switch them off until the room has cooled to target temperature minus 1.5 degrees C. As a result the room temperature cycles up and down by at least 1.5 degrees, probably more because it takes time for heat to get from the heater to the thermostat especially if it is remote.
Even a 1 degree C change is noticeable. For instance, suppose you find that 20 degrees C is comfortable, but begin to feel cold at 19 degrees or 18 degrees C. You would have to set a normal thermostat to 22 degrees C all the time. However, this is a waste of energy because for much of the time the room is hotter than it needs to be. Turning a thermostat down by just 1 degrees C saves considerable energy. Sunflow lets you do this because we have eliminated the temperature cycle altogether! Proportional Control We have eliminated the temperature cycle by using technologies in both the heater PCB and the thermostat. In our heater PCBs, we do not
simply switch the heater on or off, we modulate the power all the way from 0% to 100%. We use a combination of methods to achieve this including chrono-proportional control. This means that as the room approaches the set temperature we start to reduce the power input into the heaters. For example, if the target temperature is 20 degrees C and the actual is 19.9C, the power demand will be reduced to about 25%. If the temperature rises further it will be turned down more, if it falls it will be turned up more.
As you can see, our standard depth is just 8cm from front to back. However, height, width, depth and power output can all be varied. The Sunflow Invincible range is available in a huge range of colours and finishes and can be supplied with a matching colour tag for easy matching or contrasting of wall colours.
The result is a completely stable room temperature with no cycling at all.
Good Looks As Standard Our slim-line heaters have traditional good looks as standard. In some cases they’re even narrower than a central heating radiator, and look as good as you would expect from a superb quality radiator. Sizes It is important to remember that the overall size of ANY radiator should be dependant on the intended room usage, room size, heat losses and the amount of heat desired. We provide a free, in home advisory service to help get you the best from any room.

Heating a Conservatory Conservatories are notoriously difficult to heat. Even with special glass, you will still have a higher heat loss than a well insulated room. In northern Europe they like to use their conservatories (known as “winter gardens”) ALL YEAR, especially during their hard winters. Here in the UK, heating is often the last thing we consider, preferring to spend on blinds, furniture and flooring with no budget for decent heating. So instead people make do with fan heaters, convector heaters or oil filled radiators. Unfortunately, the wrong type of heating can have a bad effect on your new furnishings and cold and damp can set in, wasting a very expensive and special room. We have seen many cases of cowboy plumbers ‘extending’ an existing wet
system out to a new conservatory. For very obvious reasons, in most of these cases this does not meet current building regulations and can greatly decrease the life of your boiler. Now for the good news..... We have many happy customers using our heating in conservatories who benefit from low running costs and can use their new room in the middle of winter, comfortably & economically.
Heating a Bathroom Sunflow heaters are also available as an IPX4 version so are suitable for use in most bathroom situations. Bathroom heaters must be fixed to a wall and hard wired.
Complete Oil/Gas/Solid Fuel Replacement Service. If your current system is nearing the end of its life, now would be a good time to get a system replacement quote from Sunflow Ltd. We are one of the few specialist companies that can quote for the whole job, even gas removal as we are Gas Safe registered. Our registration number is 528940 and you can look us up on the Gas Safe website. You can completely replace your old, expensive wet system and enjoy the warmth and practicality of Sunflow heating for the rest of your life. Our surveyors can advise on complete or partial removals of heating, as well as providing advice on hot water provision. Cold exposed locations! We generally factor our heating in living rooms to give you a comfortable temperature even if the outside temperature drops to minus 8 degrees. However, in exposed and vulnerable locations, our surveyors can adjust their heat loss calculations to meet your exact requirements.
Why the need for a survey?
We get calls all the time asking for prices on the phone. As a professional, primary heating company, we prefer not to guess what your needs are. After all, this is where problems start in the first place. We are a family business that cares about our customers. With two generations working together and the third expressing a desire to join, we will remain involved and passionate about heating for many years to come. So it is important to get it right. We realise that in the age of the internet there are companies willing to sell you anything, but really, heating without a survey? Have you ever tried to return a bulky, heavy item or even worse a bulky damaged item? Ever opened the box and thought “It’s not as good as the picture on the computer”? Ever wondered about claims such as “25 years manufacturers guarantee”? You would have to take your heaters to Germany, Spain etc. and, if you look at the small print, controls are excluded from these guarantees.
