Beating The Pandemic, One Arm at a Tim e YNHH Lawrence + Memorial and Westerly hospitals have been delivering doses of hope into the arms of doctors, nurses and all front-line staff as Yale New Haven Health encourages its staff to get the COVID-19 vaccine. At press time, more than 20,000 employees across the health system and more than 500 employees at Westerly Hospital have received their first dose of the vaccine, and many are now starting to receive the second dose. Hope is in the air.

Across Yale New Haven Health, more than 7,100 COVID positive patients have been discharged and all member hospitals are thankful to their staff who have served their patients, COVID and non COVID-alike. Despite the encouraging number of discharges, YNHH is keeping a watchful eye on statewide trends – in Connecticut and Rhode Island – of hospitalized COVID patients.  Westerly Hospital experienced a peak of 21 COVID positive inpatients in late December – a number that dropped to just five patients in early January. As of this writing in January, L+M was at its peak of 48 COVID positive patients seeking care in New London but was hopeful that it would soon see a leveling off of this second wave.

Christopher Campagnari, MD, Family Medicine, receives the first vaccine shot at Westerly Hospital.

As both states roll out their vaccine programs to the public, it’s still important to do the things we all know make a difference – wearing a mask when you’re with others, keeping your social distance and good hand hygiene. For the latest information about the vaccine, please visit the YNHH website at https://www.ynhhs.org/ patient-care/covid-19/vaccine.aspx.

Vaccine arrives at Westerly Hospital on December 18, 2020.
