grandmother before sleeping  Guru menjelaskan kaitan gambar dengan materi yang akan dipelajari  Well students, after we looked the picture, we know that Cinderella is a story about a fairytale that is often read by mothers or grandmothers or we often watch on TV Modelling of Text (MOT)  Guru memberikan contoh teks narrative tentang fairytale kepada siswa dan meminta siswa membacanya.  Okay students, today I will show to you an example of narrative text (fary tales) and please read carefully Cinderella Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Cinderella. She lived with her step mother and two step sisters. The step mother and sisters were conceited and bad tempered. They treated Cinderella very badly. Her step mother made Cinderella do the hardest works in the house; such as scrubbing the floor, cleaning the pot and pan and preparing the food for the family. The two step sisters, on the other hand, did not work about the house. Their mother gave them many handsome dresses to wear. One day, the two step sister received an invitation to the ball that the king’s son was going to give at the palace. They were excited about this and spent so much time choosing the dresses they would wear. At last, the day of the ball came, and away went the sisters to it. Cinderella could not help crying after they had left. “Why are crying, Cinderella?” a voice asked. She looked up and saw her fairy godmother standing beside her, “because I want so much to go to the ball” said Cinderella. “Well” said the godmother,”you’ve been such a cheerful, hardworking, uncomplaining girl that I am going to see that you do go to the ball”. Magically, the fairy godmother changed a pumpkin into a fine coach and mice into a coachman and two footmen. Her godmother tapped Cinderella’s raged dress with her wand, and it became a beautiful ball gown. Then she gave her a pair of pretty glass slippers. “Now, Cinderella”, she said; “You must leave before midnight”. Then away she drove in her beautiful coach. Cinderella was having a wonderfully good time. She danced again and again with the king’s son. Suddenly the clock began to strike twelve, she ran toward the door as quickly as she could. In her hurry, one of her glass slipper was left behind. A few days later, the king’ son proclaimed that he would marry the girl whose feet fitted the glass slipper. Her step sisters tried on the slipper but it was too small for them, no matter how hard they squeezed their toes into it. In the end, the king’s page let Cinderella try on the slipper. She stuck out her foot and the page slipped the slipper on. It fitted perfectly. Finally, she was driven to the palace. The king’s son was overjoyed to see her again. Joint Construction of Text (JCOT)  Guru membagi peserta didik ke dalam beberapa kelompok yang mana setiap kelompok terdiri dari 5 orang. 

A. Definition of Narrative text 1. Narrative text is a text that tells us story in chronological order. 2. Narrative can be defined as a succession of events. Its basic component are: the chronological order of the events themselves (story), their verbal or visual representation (text), and the act of telling or writting (narration). 3. So, we can conclude that Narrative text is tells a story that has a series of connected chronological events B. Sosial Function (Purpose) of Narrative text 1. To entertain or to amuse the reader or listener 2. To attract readers with a story or event that has the problem that lead to conflict and at the end of the story is no resolution or a happy ending, or even depressing. C. Kinds of Narrative text 1. Fairy tale (dongeng) : is a traditional story written for children that usually involves imaginary creatures and magic. Example : snow white, pinocchio cinderella, beauty and the beast, rapunzel, etc. 2. Folktale (cerita rakyat) : is a story that parents have passed on to their children through speech over many years. Example: sangkuriang, bawang merah & bawang putih. 3. Fable (fabel) : is a fictional story which features animals, plants, or objects and leads to a particular moral lesson. Example: the hare and the snail and the lion and rat. 4. Myth ( mitos) : is a popular belief or ancient story, especially explaining the early history of a group of people or about natural events and facts. Example : Jaka tarub, nyi roro kidul.

5. Legend ( Legenda) : is a very old story or set of stories from ancients times and popularly accepted as historical that tells about a famous event or people, but not always true. Example : Toba lake legend and the legend of prambanan templet. D. Structure of Narrative text

1. Orientation : tells about the character and the setting (time or place) of the story. Set the scene : where and when the story happens and introduces the participants of the story, who and what is involved in the story. 2. Complication : Shows the conflict or crises affecting the main character. The crises increase into climax. 3. Resolution : tells the solution to the conflict(S). It present the ending of the story (happy or sad ending). 4. Re-orientation/coda : Moral value (optional). This is also remark to the story and it is optional. It cnsists of moral lesson. Advice or teaching from the writer. E. Language feature 1. Using simple past tense (killed,drunk,went, wont, sent,etc). Example : They made Cinderella do all the homework. 2. Using of Adverb of time (Once upon a time, one day,yeserday,etc). Example: Once upon a time, there was a beautiful girl named Ella or Cinderella. She lived in a big house with her father The rich merchant. 3. Using Time Conjunction (When,then,suddenly,before,after,until, as soon as,etc). Example: After a couple of month of illness, Ella’s father passed away, leaving her as the only rightful heir of all his treasure, including the house, 4. Using Specific Character/not in general ( Cinderella, Ali Baba, Snow White, Rapunzel,etc) 5. Using Action Verb. A verb that shows an action. ( killed,wrote,stayed, dug,walked,etc). Example: The next morning, when the merchant left, he saw a beautiful rose in the garden, He thought of Beauty and picked it up. 6. Using Direct Speech. It is to make the story lively. (“Princess said,”My name is Princess, “Oh no. It’s too late”. Cinderella said. ).
